Anyone ever have to shim their distributer?
Thanks

How much of a shim are we talking ?

Sounds to me like something isnt quite engaged. I'd strongly recommend you check everything. Try turning over the engine by hand with an extension and a socket on the balancer nut. I'd be willing to guess it just hasnt aligned itself with the oil pump shaft. If you SHIM it up and it never seats the shaft then it wont be long and you will be tearing the motor down (lack of oil pressure).

I'm talking about shimming the bottom gear that meshes with the cam. I just bought a new distributer and it has a ton of play, more that the one I took out and as soon as i put it in it started making noise. It is seated down and everything I even took off the upper intake to check and it is fine. used the stethescope and it is definately coming from there. Got 75 lbs of oil pressure. Any one ever have a problem like this? Thanks

Where did ya get the new distributor? Is this the msd replacement or?

Well about how much play does the oe or msd have, cause this has like good 1/8 inch up and down only, nut that seems a little excessive to me. Thanks guys
