Distributor circuit description '92 Ty

I have searched and cannot locate a circuit description of the distributor and would like to understand how the computer (tan wire black stripe) controls the advance/retard
mechanically? magnetically? Also, the significance of the number one position of the rotor. Mine will not start with the circuit open (wire off).
