What ever it takes!!
Re: Distributor gear size?

I ordered the .491" and it did not fit the stock distributor. I have a .427" on the way. This should be the right size for the stockers.

Thanks Ed.

Re: Distributor gear size?

Is the .427 one brass?

Seems like if you want composite gears, you need to get a new distributor.

Re: Distributor gear size?

Not sure which one is correct, but these are the ones we offer.

Comp Cams:
- Bronze Gear (.491") - PN 412 - $42
- Composite Gear (.491") - PN 12200 - $99

Crane:
- Bronze Gear (.427") - PN 11988-1 - $45

PRW:
- Bronze Gear (.491") - PN 0735001 - $35

Re: Distributor gear size?

I can't find it now, maybe my memory is bad again.

If there is enough interest I could machine up some spacers to use the larger gears. My black ty needs a composite gear itself.

Re: Distributor gear size?

Or read the thread

He already said that .491 doesn't work...
I would be interested to see exactly what a stock (not reman) distributor measures out to. I can see some some reman companies (A1 Cardone, etc...) using a different gear if there was excessive wear there, or if lathing the shaft was part of the reman process for them. Would be weirder if GM used a different gear just for 4.3s when it only varies slightly from the standard SBC distributor used in a billion other engines.

I'll measure one of mine when I get home today.

Re: Distributor gear size?

just wen outside and checked the distributor pulled from my SY and i got a measurement of .491 i dont know if its the original one from it although it does look to be.

could it be aftermarket remaned units like a-1 cardone and stuff have a small diameter shaft?

Re: Distributor gear size?

I'll verify with my distributors this afternoon (got 4-5 of em), but that's my thinking Pete.

Stock is smaller size, you won't notice that unless you actually pull the gear off.

Re: Distributor gear size?

I just looked thru my collection of stock distributors and found this extremely interesting. The shaft dia. of the dis. is .427 however the gear is both .427 on top(at the gear),but .491 at the oil pump shaft. When I got my composite gear I got a .491 and it fit perfectly.I checked 4 different dis.that I know came stock and they were all the same.Hope this clears up this question.
