Does Code 43 indicate knock?

From everything I have read I am under the impression that CEL code 43 (Electronic Spark Control functions check fail or something like that) basically translates to say that I have knock. Is this correct? If not, any ideas where I should begin looking. The truck throws this code immediately when started after hooking the battery up.

I have installed a new knock sensor, with thread tape and it is not overly torqued. Double checked the pigtail to the knock sensor and it is secure. With that, I saw on another thread that the knock sensor doesn't actually function until 1800 RPM?

My timing is set, just did it last night and it is set on the right mark and the balancer has not slipped. I don't know if I'm on the right track.

Would that code appear if the ignition module in the distributor was bad or having problems?

Any help is appreciated. I am so close to being able to finish it up and drive that these last few gremlins are driving me nuts!

Re: Does Code 43 indicate knock?

All brand new and clean. I just finished my engine install a week or two ago and I put new everything in. Rotor, cap and coil are all Borg Warner Select parts from O'Reilly Auto, plugs are CR42TS gapped at .35 and my wires are Accel Extreme 9000 8mm for high heat applications. The IGN module in the distributor is old though. For some reason I went with the "ain't broke, dont fix it" theory.

What kind of chip? Is it stock, or does it use a memcal adapter? The ESC circuitry is on the memcal.

When you say '' new knock sensor '' is it a new gm or a parts store sensor ? if it's a parts store sensor then more then likely that's your cause of the code . had this issue many years ago .

(LOOOONG story short) I went through this same issue years ago in my Ty....re did the knock sensor and wiring and nothing replace plugs, wires cap rotor and the electronic deal below the rotor and still nothing.

I pulled the distributor and replaced it with a new one and all was good!

The knock sensor is a Borg Warner pn: S8011. From the other threads I've seen on here that is the correct part. But I may go buy a GM part and see, plus I have a few distributors laying around so I may try to swap on out and see what happens. This truck may kill me.
