The upper intake looked so good after polishing that I couldnt help but polish the upper ic. Anyway to make a long story short while smoothing out the welds I went thru one!!!! Yikes. The one next to the air intake had a large protruding shape at the lower front corner so i knocked it down with a file 1st. it didnt take long before i realized the remaning low spot was actually a hole. lol :D

So i dropped it off down the street at one of my customers shops that can weld aluminum.

Anyway looks pretty good except for the small hole in it :D

I should get it back later today.

MAybe this would be a good time to go air to air? :D

I just wanted to see the shiny new upper IC/intake. What did ya use to polish everything?

Keep the shaft out for a bit. Have some fun. No front prop in a Ty is fun. I bet it's even more fun in a Sy.

What would be even better would be a picture of you right after you finished sanding and polishing :D That's one of those jobs that half way through you wonder why you ever started.

A polished ic looks baaad azz :) But the only problem is that you have to constantly polish it.. and if its a little dirty then it makes your whole engine dept look dirty...

sure you repaint anything.

I polished it cuz im sick of everything lookin black and black, and black
with some gray aluminum.
motor is going to be red, chrome valve covers on it.
russell brushed aluminum ignition wire brackets also.
I have to order it yet but was going to use edlebrock aluminum water pump.
I allready had the chrome 200 amp powermaster alternator.
Yep, we are talkin show and go on this one!

I striped the front frame, with degreeser and a very high pressure powerwasher, and painted everthing with epocy frame paint from russel including the fender wells that i stripped the undercoating from.

No more gettin dirty from just changing spark plugs.

It was clean enough when i could put my hand anywhere and not come out with anything on my skin.

After about the 1st hour the job starts to wear on you.

In my case i have one employee who when he had nothin else to do during the inclement weather we have had a lot of he didnt mind using a da for hours on end since I hired him from a bodyshop.

This is not true. I have quite a bit of polished items on my Ty and it is much easier to keep clean than the textured aluminum which everything seems to stick to. I polish the items a couple of times a year and looks good as new and in between just wipe it down with a wet rag and dry.

looks great!

did you polish the idler wheel adjuter and the ac compressor or is that just the way it looks in the photo. cuz frankly im about polished out here.

MY bottom end is ready for me to pickup from the machine shop! In the am i will get it and start assembleing.

I can hear it now from the wife: "your not going to work on that damn truck again this sunday too are you?" :D

I have a great response allready for her: Hey you want to be the one that has to drive this POS 90 chevy cavalier beater. 160k miles on it. Its a real prize. Have to remember to duck if anyone sees ya! lol

guaranteed that will change her tune. :D

Ed,

Just buy her a pair of of shoes, and she won't give a F what you do Sunday.
Get home early enough to take her to dinner so she doesn;t have to cook and you may even get some... lol

Instead of polish I heat Wrapped my upper IC and its plenty shiny :D
Was gonna have my turbo compressor side polished until I found out how much it costs so I just "Cleaned" it with some drum rolls and hand finished in 220.
Gives it a machined look. F polishing by hand...

Rick that is one sharp looking engine bay... I totaly stand corrected. I totally see your point.. The stock texture now that you have me thinking more clearly about it just grabs every bite of dirt possible which really sucks.

Nice job rick. What's the deal with the a/c? Where did you get that pulley from and the shield, is that the stock housing polished?

Rick, explain the steps you took to polish the intercooler. I did a cover for my syclone and came out just like yours but now wanna do the intercooler. Thanks, BTW your truck looks great!
