e-fans

What fits and works ?
CFM ratings?
I keep reading good things about mid 90's Mark VIII fan moving close to 4000 cfm.
More than aftermarket hyped-up stuff.
How much hp should I expect to free up, 8-10?

Re: e-fans

The HP you free up goes into driving the alt to put out more current to drive the fans. So you probably need a bigger alt as well.

Only when the fans are running. Unless its a fairly hot day, fans dont run all that often, depending on settings. They run mostly at idle, over 30mph most cars move air through the radiator more efficient than a fan does.

I'll second what ajt86 said. I have a Mark VIII fan connected to a two way switch. High speed works regardless of temp, and low speed is connected to a fan switch on the side of the engine block. I rarely have the need to switch it to high, and the low setting kicks on automatically only in stop and go situations. And when I'm driving in traffic, I'm not worried about losing a few ponies.

What relay(s) dooes one need for this fan?

This is a bit of a false statement. Slightly more HP will be required to run the alternator than before, but not the same amount that is freed form removing the stock clutch fan. Mostly due to the shape and size of the fan blades themselves.

Re: e-fans

2 relays at 30amps? On the Mark 8? I'm reading 75 amp. If that is the case, truck needs a better alternator for sure with this fan. What is the stock alt rating? 100-105 amp? Hmmm:squint:.

Throw a fuel/inter cooler pump upgrade, plus wideband/EBC/scantool/gauges and a/c plus lights on here in west TEXAS heat and alternator will be almost maxed out prolly. Maybe an electrical savvy person can shed more light on this? :(

75 amps current draw from a fan motor? I don think so! Those 30 amp relays would have melted a long time ago. Plus, I have them fused at 30 amps. So the fuses would have popped too. When I get home tomorrow I'll connect my Fluke to the fan and measure current draw on low and high speeds.

I think the point to be made about electric fans is that they are not worth the HP gain, if there is any.

I installed E-fans for other reasons, the idea that my truck might possibly have 5 more HP was not one of them :)

This. I have e-fans for my A2A IC. I would rather have the stock clutch fan and shroud.

Agreed.

Anyone tried to retrofit the electric clutch used an Trailblazers to an older vehicle?

X4. I wanted clean things up a bit and make my truck a *little* easier to work on:

I installed the now discontinued Flaxalite 210 dual fans five years ago. They were a direct fit, almost like they were made for the truck.

Good enough!

Plenty of space for a nice custom plumbing for CAI. Thanks for the pics.

Re: e-fans

I just installed dual intrepid fans with a flex-a-life fan controller. Works awesome and I'm very happy with it.
