Contemplating the 11 blade astro fan mod instead.
It's cheap and an improvement.

This is the setup I went with. Bolted right up and the fan was lighter than the old metal one. Not sure if it helped power wise, or flow. But was an easy job to do.

2 relays at 30amps? On the Mark 8? I'm reading 75 amp. If that is the case, truck needs a better alternator for sure with this fan. What is the stock alt rating? 100-105 amp? Hmmm:squint:.

Throw a fuel/inter cooler pump upgrade, plus wideband/EBC/scantool/gauges and a/c plus lights on here in west TEXAS heat and alternator will be almost maxed out prolly. Maybe an electrical savvy person can shed more light on this? :(

I measured current draw on my Mark VIII fan. I get ~12 Amps on low and ~27 on high. I use low most of the time during regular driving so 12 Amps is not enough to upgrade alternators. By the way that's about the same as what my heater motor draws.

Great info!! Thanks for taking the time.

Re: e-fans

I had decent luck with using a Ford Explorer fan and clutch on my '04 ZR5. I was chasing a cooling issue in that truck and the Explorer fan was supposed to pull more air, and the clutch was supposed to engage sooner. Not sure how that relates to HP, but might be worth a try if someone has access to a junkyard piece, and the time to test.

Here's a gallery of the swap from many years ago when I tried it out.

That fan controller has worked fabulously with my ramcharger setup. I have the 12v+ wired through a 30A circuit breaker. If you aren't watching the fans as they turn on, you wouldn't notice. The controller ramps up the fans instead of an instant hit, and then only to 60%. Ramps up to 100% if needed. NO noticeable amp surge with my CS144 alternator.

That's pricey. Nice but pricey
Could I accomplish similar results using a potentiometer? Those are cheaper or free if you know where to look.

I just used my ECM to control the fans. I just used a relay and use the fan anticipation IAC counts, so the engine doesn't stumble when they kick on.
