That's cool. I'd love to get rid of the alt./PS bracket.

Interesting to say the least . What do these come stock on ? Losing the bracket pump crap would be nice .

Re: Electric Hydraulic Power Steering & Hydroboost

The item shown is a oem pump from a 2000 and newer Renault. I have found many cars from many manufacturers that use similar electric hydraulic pumps, but most are smaller European cars. The fact that this particular pump has been retrofitted to a big hot-rodded Olds Cutlass, and it is running both the power steering and hydroboost brakes, makes me think it might work okay for our applications as well.

This is the remanufacturer of these pumps referenced in the e-bay ad; they appear to have operations in the USA, Europe and India:

Are Renault's only sold overseas? These pumps seem to be from a 2000 and newer Renault Clio. I tried searching on car-parts.com and nothing comes up. Hopefully there are some cars in US junk yards that I can find one of these on.

Re: Electric Hydraulic Power Steering & Hydroboost

You guys are slacking . I just scored a good deal on an entire setup off a 95 mr2 . It consists of a power steering ecu , steering column trigger , electronic power steering pump , and remote resevior . The steering trigger tells the ecu how much pump to apply and slows the pump down with higher speeds . Low speeds it knows to work the pump more since the wheels will be harder to turn . Im wiring it all up and including a brake switch feed to the trigger the ecu so my hydroboost works off it too .

If you google the mr2 eps setup , you can see its been done successfully many times .On page 10 of this .pdf you can see how everything hooks together . http://opc.mr2oc.com/online_parts_catalog/1995electrical.pdf Best part is I will have less into this than that israel pump alone unshipped . Everything is coming next week so i'll keep everyone updated . Once it all gets here i'll make a how to thread like I did with the stock control arm coil overs .I also already found a cheap way to low mount the alt without the expensive bracketry in place of the stock pwr steering pump. I know Im excited .

Hey Ian .Do you find the pump to be noisy ? I dont know anymore about all this other than i must have it . I found little info on a few different vehicles this comes standard on . I wish there were a few good tutorials on the web about this but all I found was this on some ev's . Do you ever have battery issues , and yours only turns the pump on when the wheels start to turn ??

But for anyone looking for just a pump, there are 2 mazda 3 pumps on ebay right now . One has a crack in the case that can only be seen in one of the extra pics . the main shot is of the good side . I was only looking for a complete setup because the pump draws some high current wired on all the time .Although a crude steering column switch could be devised to run it only when you start turning the wheel ...

The only thing left to add is the Hydraulic Cooling Fan from a Lexus 300 or 400.

Re: Electric Hydraulic Power Steering & Hydroboost

Im getting everything from one of the vendors on http://www.mr2oc.com He said he has 6-7 full mr2's thats being parted out each with the eps . Ive gotten a couple pms already about getting his contact info and will get back with you guys , but a couple are still unspoken for and I can give his number if you pm me .

Thanks for posting that pic up .He assured me I was getting everything originally when I first talked to him but I forwarded that shot to him to be certain of what Im getting . He said if he missed anything to let him know and he'd send it out .

I know the eps ecu and driver (2 boxes on bottom of pic) are going behind my seat and the pump is going where my stock cche used to be . Im sure the column parts can be broken down to just the switch, contacts, and wires so I'll see about that . Sure seems like alot to re-invent the wheel , but you should see how nice the front of the motor looks without all that crap on it .
