Electric Water Pump

My stock pump is starting to weep, so it's time for a new one. I'm thinking electric.

I'm not looking for an all out war on whether or not to use one, I don't care. My truck moves 1000 miles a year at most. Please, those comments aren't required.

Can anyone offer any insight as to brands, sizing, or personal experience? Meziere looks good, but is rather spendy. Is 35gpm enough, or should I be opting for a larger one?

I thought about electric also but, won't that really screw up the belt routing? Any idea's?

Re: Electric Water Pump

it will be more trouble than its worth for a street car, you would need to redo the entire front of the motor

Re: Electric Water Pump

A little background: AC is removed, and I have a manual steering box waiting to go on. All I want is a belt to an alternator, just because I'm weird that way. On my toys I'm very much a "less is more" sort of guy. I've already got most of the alternator relocate sourced, just need the time to do it.

The alternator relocate is going to be built very similar to Mr Kings thread on the electric power steering, I just won't be doing the electric steering part of it.

Darin, that is the setup that I have on my V8 S10. Manual brakes, strongarm steerin, elecric fuel pump, etc. The only thing springing off the front is the Alt. The cheap pump that I bought was rated at several thousand hours of operation. That is more than that truck is likely to see.

Gord, do you recall what make the coolant pump was? My only concern is that Meziere recommends the larger pumps for turbo applications.

Re: Electric Water Pump

I wanted to run electric and put it and my fans on a thermostat switch, so when I shut my truck off the coolant will continue to circulate and cool the engine down. I hate heat soak.
