Engine Reassembly - OP sensor, MSD

Hey Guys, Some Q on reassembling engine - probably won't be the last ones :

1.) Oil P Sensor.- My old pictures show the old stock (broken) sensor mounted to a 90° brass fitting screwed into a hole in the top of the block right next to the Distributor. The replacement sensor from GM has different threads and is meant to screw into the block directly w/o the 90° fitting. So it will be sitting vertically instead of horizontally w the stock one. Anyone else see this ?

2.) Guys who installed MSD - The stock coil is riveted to a bracket bolted to the Int. Man. Did U chisel off those rivets to install the MSD coil to the same bracket ?

3.) Did your MSD Coil/Dist spark lead fit tight ? - mine doesn't.

yes you cut the rivets on the stock coil.

The truck I installed it on had knock retard issues with it installed. Haven't had a chance to investigate why yet. Pulled the coil off problem solved.

Patrick,

I'm kinda starting from scratch w all MSD, so hopefully no problemo. I've heard of guys having problems w guys just replacing the coil w MSD. So, did U go back to the stocker ?

Are you talking about the coil wire?

If it's the coil wire, just take a pair of needle nose pliers and stick it into the boot. Grab hold of the metal cap connector and gently squeeeze.

Or if you look at the connector on coil wire you'll notice it is a semi-circle.
Use the needle nose pliers to make it a tighter semi-circle.

Rick,

I guess the problem w the Coil Hi T lead is that they sent me the wrong one - #84049 instead of the correct #84039.

The rivets chiseled off the Coil bracket fairly straightforward. Now I gotta figure out where to put the huge MSD box. Probably should be near the battery, since it has to connect to it.
