experience with 160amp

70-80 amp at idle sounds good though.

I bought a 160amp from motorcityreman The only negative I notice is that it whines under acceleration more than stock (not through the stereo) It give my truck a different engine noise at WOT. My truck is pretty quiet compare to most SyTy's.

im not switching my factory battery cables.
i have another ought gauge wire for the amps anyway.
im just doing this for the hot wired fuel pump,lower charge cooler fan, and the intercooler pump that run with key on.

I also got one from motorcityreman and it went bad after a few weeks i sent it back and they sent me a new one in less then a week so they are pritty good to deal with

Is the cable modification really needed when using a 140 or 160 amp alt. or will it work fine without changing it?

it works fine her but, the original 12 year old cables have seen better days(esp the over heated positive one to the starter)
im replacing this winter.

i got a powermaster chrome 160amp alternator from summit for like 170? i dont remember... i know it was under 200 bills... i had to steer clear of the reman shit, ive gone through 4 of those on my blazer :tdown:

If you leave the stock cable it will create resistance in the cable and will shorten the life of your alternator. If you're spending money on a good alternator you want to make sure you get all the performance out of it and prolong the life of it.

On a related note, if you haven't ordered I'll have a brand new 200amp alternator for sale fairly soon. I got one that was damaged and bought one locally and looks like the first company is giving me a deal I can't refuse on another. If I do it, I'll let you know.
