so I went to inspection today, passed for everything except

Hydrocarbons, I was double the legal limit

correct me if im wrong but this is unburnt fuel correct?

they also said my emissions system failed.. should I bother replacing egr, etc...

went and spoke with my old boss, he said he'd suggest putting some fuel injection cleaner in the tank with some super, maybe retard the timing a bit.. and go back..

any suggestions?

he also mentioned a wire that goes from the distributor to the ecm.. he said if i were to unplug that the ecm should retard the timing and put the truck into limp mode..

Put your old 195 deg. thermostat ,do the advance 10 to 12 deg ,use the cleaner and thats it
If you unplug the brown wire it will go to 0 deg. and the truck wont work right

You Ty is stock or pretty damn close right? It should pass without having to fool around with timing and injector cleaner. Obviously a lot of thing can go bad, but you track down the problem, maybe a bad injector clogged EGR, etc.

bone stock..

replaced, plugs/wires/vacum hoses/turbo.. since i got it..

im gonna take apart the egr when i get a chance.. start there, but even that shouldn't cause the hydrocarbons to be double

If it runs well ie not rich then I'd say put on a new cat. A new cat can "help" even a modified truck pass.

what about lowring the fuel pressure? and do what I did and just purchase a sticker :D

here are my numbers from last year when I tried it just for the hell of it.

HC was 837 which the standard should 100

CO% was 1.60 which the standard should be 0.50

yeah my HC were 204
my co% was under....

The truck is running pretty damn strong.. but if its not burning all the fuel shot into the cylinders, I want to know why..

i might just purchase a sticker anyway, but i dunno where i would do such a thing around here.. ill have to ask around.

I had the same thing on the Ty. It was a bad cat. It could have also been that I did it on a day that was REALLY cold and didn't really drive the truck all that long prior - but I replaced the cat and it passed with flying colors.

today was freezing, and i went from my house to the inspection station, 10min away.. sat and idled for like 30min before it was tested.. but yeah..

Im gonna look for a cheap replacement cat..

I had trouble with my last SY in FL a few years back. I turned the FP as low as I could and still keep a fair idle and it passed fine.

so it looks like im spending $100 some odd bucks to pass emissions testing..

just found out a shop near me would have given me a sticker for $60..

now in all honesty, would a afpr help my truck actually run better, I mean currently it seems to run strong as hell, aside from a little ticking and a weird boost pattern its definately a beast, especially for 99k miles. :D
