Finally got my ALKY in (PICS)

Got my kit yesterday and its nice!! It only took me 10 friggin hours. But so far I am pleased with it. I havent done any tuning yet but thats where Im off to here in a few. I normally run about 18-19 psi and it pulls very hard, at 14 psi with the meth on and no tuning it felt like it does at 20psi. I cant wait to this dialed in. Btw, that 10 hours included running to stores, making brackets and tucking wires in to the fender.

Mike,

Instead of blowin' off all your street racer friends and getting noise tickets you should take that thing to the track and post some numbers. Ya, I know, it's a drive but a trip or two won't hurt.

Only took me a year, and a bunch of help from the community, to finally begin to figure my alky out, you ought to do in about a week with Code$59 eh? Have fun...

Re: Finally got my ALKY in

Don, numbers are worthless :rotf: j/k, I really just don't care for the track, and it really isnt the drive that kills me as much as it is that when I get there my truck always runs like shit. Of course now that Im capable of tuning I can always make adjustments but last itme I was there my battery died on my second run, I was pissed so I was stuck running 14 flat the rest of the day when I know I could have gone at least a 13.6, thats my average time.

I bought the Devil's Own kit, his kit had nothing to do with how long it took, I had made "special" brackets in the past to relocate parts and I ended up having to toss them to make room for the reservoir and ended up having to make a few new brackets, then there was painting, running to the store ten times to get different kinds of bolts, blah blah blah. Definitely wasn't the kits fault.

Now for results, one thing I notice thats kind of scary is that when I get over 17psi the truck pulls extremely hard but when I let off the gas it feels like it takes a second or two to start slowing down, almost like the pedal is getting stuck. When I got home I checked everything out that can make that happen and didnt find anything. So I have to say that alky is the shit!! I dont know why I never got it before, this should have been my second mod, tuning being my first(or should have been). I cant even explain the grin on my face feeling 23 pounds of boost with 0 KR. It was awsome. I definitely have a ways to go with tuning it though, Need to learn some things and works out all the bugs with it. Right now Im having issues with leaning out in lower boost areas which I can fix easily but I need to do things like step up timing til it becomes worthless and possibly go with a bigger nozzle, things like that. But absolutely 100% best mod ever.

Re: Finally got my ALKY in

hmm maybe i should put in an alky kit for non e85 times. this is an odd question but how much is this effecting your fuel miliage, i know with an alky kit the potential is there to run 87 w/o poblem any experimenting? and i got to say all this talk about everyone's trucks running awesome makes me want to get my truck together

Re: Finally got my ALKY in

Mileage hasn't been affected yet. For one, I used the same tune I have been using w/o meth and I don't have it spraying until about 10-12 psi. So my mileage is the same unless I get on it. Now I did have to pull quite a bit of fuel out in the upper boost levels which I was expecting to have to do since I did some reading about tuning it before I started, so maybe it will just even out.

Funny ting is that cars around here that are turboed you rarely see any of them with alky set ups.

well that just means you have another advantage. anyone around here i talk to describe alky as a 70 horse no mod bolt on and get lost when i tell them they need to tune it.

Re: Finally got my ALKY in Now with PICS!!

Here are some pics I took of my install. I wish I would have taken some during but I didn't.

Hard to see but this is hte way I ran hte tubing for the alky, behind the front bumper, yes i had to take it off.

Here is where I mounted the controller

Here is the reservoir, I had to build a bracket behind to match up the right side bolt hole and I made it a stud instead of a bolt hole so that I could remove with ease. I bought a barb fitting and pulled the copper/brass sleeve out of the outlet and JB welded the barb in to the hole.

Here you can see the bracket a little better.

This is the bracket I made for the pump, this took me a while to as I tried to use variations of other brackets I had laying around. I think this turned out good.

Here is another shot of the pump.

And the nozzle mounted.

Here is where I relocated the coil to the brake booster and the MAP sensor to the firewall.
