Fire extinguisher mounting

Code what?
Anyone road racing in a Ty found a good place to mount a fire extinguisher? A pillar is NOT an option......

Re: Fire extinguisher mounting

I keep mine in the rear seat passenger side held in with the seatbelt.

Both are great idea's, I do not have a roll bar/cage so that's not an option. I need to go pick up a fire extinguisher and start looking for its home in the Ty. Any suggestions on fire extinguishers?

Re: Fire extinguisher mounting

I plan on putting one on the front of the drivers seat. I don't know how to properly explain it but I want to build bracket that I can clamp to the frame of the seat so it rests as close to the front of the driver's seat as possible. There is that dead space that feet never really go that would allow for a small fire extinguisher.

I searched this a while back here and IIRC there were pictures posted of this mounting method. Also there was mention of using a special type of extinguisher that isn't powdery.

That is probably halon which is banned.

Another spot might be behind the drivers seat attached to the back of the cab. Haven't inspected there for that so don't know for sure.

I finally got around to doing this today, picked up a 2lb BC from NAPA for $20. 6yr warranty. I did not want to stare at it up front or put it anywhere that would interfere with seat position. I found this spot behind the driver seat that it can quickly be grabbed from after getting out. I've had syty's for 15yrs and I'm ashamed of myself I waited this long to carry a fire extinguisher. Two small screws hold the plastic mount, it's really sturdy and releases quick. This location allows the driver seat to be leaned fully back to nap and does not interfere with folding down the rear seat.

Re: Fire extinguisher mounting

I don't like to drill holes in cars, boats or fine wood cabinets if I can possibly avoid it.
Here's where I've carried mine for 15 years in the Ty's. It doesn't move around, doesn't rattle, and I can reach it from the driver's door with the seat back folded forward. It would never pass tech at a racetrack, but that doesn't concern me. It could also become a projectile aimed at my head if I ever hit something with a lot of pace on. But I didn't drill any holes, and its out of the way. Someday I may even make a custom wrapping for it and get rid of the white towel, as it shows through the glass.

Re: Fire extinguisher mounting

Before mine starts getting driven i need to figure this out. I have a halotron extinguisher from Griots Garage that I really want to keep in the Syclone so this never happens again!

I'm still cleaning white power out of Crispy and probably will for years so thinking about that its not too bad at 2.5lb's for $159.
