Re: front diff gear ratio change?

ok, i know most sytys come with 3.42 gears front and rear, is there any way to get like 3.27 or 3.23, I know what I can get for the rear, but would like to get better top end/gas mileage.

if you have an automatic and a turbo from what i have gathered you wont gain much if anything at all from a gear change, try changing your tire size first. if i am correct the taller your tire is the higher your gear ratio is. someone correct me if i am wrong

Re: front diff gear ratio change?

The ratios I know of that are available for the 7.25" IFS are 3.08, 3.42, 3.73, 4.11, and 4.56.

Taller tires will make your rear gear feel lower numerically. For example, going from 28 to 30" tall tires will make your 3.42's feel more like 3.19's (a ratio that isn't available).

According to Randy's Ring & Pinion, the case break (for the diff) is 3.08 and down, and 3.42 & up. That means that if you've got 3.42's and want to install 3.73's or higher, you can re-use your diff, but if you want to go down to 3.08's, you've got to change diffs (the actual internal guts the gears mount to).

There is no limited slip available for the front diff. There is a locker assembly (Lock-Right 1935), that installs in your existing diff (replacing the spider gears). However, I don't believe anybody really recommends using it on the street. Alot of mixed results. Search on here....

LSD is a drug that was very popular in the 70's.

You may look in the back of some vans to find some.
