fuel pressure

well i finally broke down and bought a fuel pressure guage. hooked it up and with the vacum line unhooked i get 50lbs of pressure, with it hooked up i get over 50lbs. now aren't these trucks suppose to idle with 42lbs of fuel pressure? so this means i probably should buy a apfr now?

Re: fuel pressure

buy an adjustable one then check it, could be a bad diaphragm in the old one causing a leak.

Re: fuel pressure

i've noticed it's been running rich lately and getting lots of flood smoke when i punch it, i hope this cures it or makes it better and maybe it'll improve my gas miliage. i only seem to get 10 mpg crusin around town.

Re: fuel pressure

Fifty psi is WAY to high for a truck unless you are running a custom chip and a 3 bar MAP sensor...

Re: fuel pressure

Stab it and steer it
Re: fuel pressure

Something is definitely cockeyed here. FP is supposed to go down when you attach the vac line. You’re doing this at idle I assume? When you add some power does the FP rise a little to follow (less) vacuum? Detroit Turbo and RPM both have the good AFPR’s. They can prolly ship overnight for little additional on that small an item. Well worth the effort.

Re: fuel pressure

got a new fpr, couldn't afford an afpr with the new baby but fp is now 43ish. and the truck seems more responsive and doesn't puff out as much flood smoke when i floor it.

Re: fuel pressure

run some high octane gas or octane booster and burn out all that rich mixture you got in the truck.

Re: fuel pressure

Depending on how long you drove the truck running pig rich like that, it may be in your interest to change the plugs (if you're ambitious that is)...
