GM Top Engine Cleaner???

Has anyone tried this in their trucks?? If so what kind of results? I thought it might be a good maintenance item for the over 50,000 mile trucks.

Thanks,
Mike

yep, I've used it a few times. The results are basically an intake with less carbon buildup.

I'd suggest it, its a good thing to do. Just change oil and plugs right after.

i did it. and wow. it cleaned it out..

like scott said, do it right before you change the oil and plugs. you'll notice why when you do it.

also, do it in a very well vented area. or point it at somebodys house you don't like.

we use it at work all the time at work, pour it in stedy through the brake booster hose just to the point where the motor will cut off and as soon as the can is gone cut the motor off and let it sit overnite and and the next day, start it up and drive it using a lot of WOT burst. IF you have a new gm with a 5.3 this also gets rid of the cold engine tick by cleaning and braking up carbon around the rings.

i usually get the aerosol...

I take off the IC (easy enough to do) and spray directly into the TB while keeping it running.

amazing how that stuff eats gunk and carbon buildup. this is the first ive read about leaving it in overnight...usually i read about putting it in, letting it sit for awhile, then going out and driving the shit outta the truck.

if i remember right, doesnt the can follow along those directions? I guess it wouldnt hurt to leave it in, would give more of a chance to let it clean valves and pistons while still floating around internally.

is there any real advantage to leave it in overnight though?

gm had a bullten out for the 5.3 and the northstar about doing this it will make a bigger diff if you leave it set overnite, and i use the can through the pcv tube or the booster hose because usually they are near each other and more carbon forms around pcv side of the intake from the oil vapor.

The main chemical ingrediant is 'Butyl Cellosolve'. It also works great as a soak type parts cleaner to clean valves during head rebuilding. CAUTION: Wear gloves to prevent skin absorption.

If you plug that into your favorite search engine, you can find OSHA reports and chemical supply companies that will sell you anywhere from a quart to a tanker load.

And YES, you can go to your local Ford dealer... ask for 'Carburetor and Combustion Chamber Cleaner' - part # D9AZ-19579-B (aerosol can) or C6AZ-19579-B (??? this may be just an old number.)

o yeah, this stuff works super good as injector cleaner just mix about 1/2 and 1/2 with gas and crimp return line and unplug pump and use a presurized can of some sort. this will some time even clean suger or salt from fuel sys. they recomend not putting it in the gas tank somthing about it being hard on pump pices or somthing, this is also why the return line is crimped.
