Good story on 4L65E

I chatted with Nolan some last night and here is what I got out of him.

In order to put the 4L60e trans in you need to do the following

Find a trans that bolts in, I believe the 93-96 and 00-02 will bolt right into our truck when using the rear adaptor to transfercase from our trans. The other model years have to have an adaptor made or bought to mate it to the t-case.

To get the trans working, you need the harness for the transmission from donor vehicle, must be 4L60E specific, has about 12 or so wires, thse wires go from the trans to the secondary ecm. They control the transmission.

Also need an ecm from a vehicle equipped with a 4L60E.

The 2nd ecm requires these signals to be bridged from primary ecm:

vss
rpm
mph
brake switch
positive
switched positive
ground

Also need custom chip to control shift points, etc....

If I'm missing anything or something is incorrect please help out.

I'm not saying this is any better than what Nolan and Jesse are talking about. It's just here to see what it looks like:

This Assembly includes the transmission control unit (TCU) P/N 12489489, wiring harness P/N 12489490, Specifications P/N 12489491 (13 pages, 8 1/2 x 11 in size with detailed information - not shown), TCU/Laptop interface cable P/N 12489579, and the TCU/Laptop Interface Software Diskette P/N 12490207.
The control unit and programing software is designed to work with either a 4L60E or 4L80E transmission. The TCU/Laptop Specifications provides you with a step-by-step guide to a PC based control system for our Transmission Control System. This software allows you, through your PC, to take precise control of the transmission fuctions. You can control and alter the feel of a gearshift, the timing of the gearshift, and the application of the lockup in the torque converter. T-Com also allows you to have the transmission shift at wide open throttle (WOT) solely as a function of engine RPM, while it continues to follow a shift curve based on road speed and throttle position during part throttle driving.
T-Com is designed to allow maximum tuning for the performance enthusiast. the system comes already loaded with a transmission calibration that works quite well in most performance applications. There are only four fields in the Global Calibration that "MUST" be entered for the system to fuction with the pre-programmed calibration. In order to get the system up and running, you simply have to enter the tire size, rear axle ratio, number of engine cylinders, and if you are using the 4L60E or 4L80E transmission.
The TCU comes with a generic calibration file installed. However, since different users can have wide ranging expectations of how hard and when they want the transmission to shift, the edit features allow for "customizing" the characteristics to meet those expectations.

System Requirements

PC:
CPU 386 or better

Graphics:
VGA

Display:
Color is recommended, black and white is acceptable on some systems

Ram:
2MB minimum

Hard Drive:
1 MB minimum

RS-232:
A free com port (without conflicting interupts) is required

Note form the webmaster. Most published system requirements for any software like above will usually only be enough to just be able to allow the program to function, if that. Most people won't have a computer as far out of date as what they are stating above, so there shouldn't be any problems running the program for them.
Some knowledge of MS/DOS will be helpful to you too

That doesn't look like a bad solution but $900 is alot just to control the tranny. Does FAST now have a module that is similar in the gm unit above that also does trannys controls? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone if your into speedpro.

That is the TCI(FAST) unit repackaged. They work very good! But I am a cheap bastard. Oh and if you guyd go 4L60E do not use the PWM tranny they wear out very quickly (valve bodys) and the lock up is PWM as well which sucks. The older 4L60E's are not PWM these are the ones you want.

Nolan - But according to the other posts, wouldn't U then need a special make rear adapter that presently doesn't exist ?

My 4L60E is a 1993 and is the same as the 700R4. So it is a bolt in.
When they changed to the removable bellhousing they changed the rear of the tranny. You can get the right adapter Nick steffens got one. Do a search on it he had posted some info to the board.

What about getting an AEM ECU to control the whole package? I know it has controls for electronic transmissions (You'd obviously be on your own as far as configuration, but it can't be that difficult). You can get a semi-universal one for around 1200-1400 bucks depending on who you know. Then you would have full control of everything from one unit with a bunch of extras that other solutions might not have (EGT monitoring/feedback, boost control, etc).
