well...i'm in the middle of swapping trannies, tc, and flexplate. I'm happy i got a new flexplate (TCI heavy duty-$67 at Jegs) becuase tonight after i dropped my broken tranny down, I was greeted by this:

as you can see by my frame, pennsyltucky has treated the typhoon with zero respect. i dunno if i should try to get it taken care of or what.

Heres how my tranny looks:

in the background...you can see my new tranny ready to go in. You can also see how little room i have on either side of the truck to be working. Makes life a little more interesting.

tearing it apart and trying to figure out whats wrong with it. I'm not intending on selling it, but rebuilding myself and keeping it 'in case'.

The Roadmaster dude at the Nats told me that the tool investment for building a transmission was prohibitive for someone doing it just once, say $200. Can these specialized tools be rented or worked around?

Also, the oxidation on your flexplate looks almost like flash...you just didnt feel like sanding it off?

autozone has most of those tools for 8 dollars.

but...... if i was talking to methuselah i would discourage a tranny build too!

$200 for tools and $600 for rebuild kit....thats a lot cheaper than say $1500 for a reman. tranny.

I'd rather learn how the tranny works anyway.

I bought the new flexplate before being able to see the entire stock one. I'd rather just go w/ new parts on a 10yr old vehicle. I'm basically trying to replace everything bit by bit, whether it needs it or not. A lot easier than sanding rust off.
