GT35R install

I did a motor swap and am trying to get this turbo on my truck. As Spooldup previously mentioned, you are going to have to cut through the AC bracket quick a bit. This is with the 3 inch inlet turbo. I can't imagine putting a 4 inch in there with the AC. You need a cutting wheel on an air tool. I doubt you will be able to do it with a Dremel. You will need the 2 flare fittings to put in the turbo. The GT35R also did not come with a flange for the oil return. The stock line will not reach the return without the flange and it is not the same flange that bolts on to the regular Precision turbo. The flange is going to need to be small on both ends, the same size as the return line. Get all the parts before you start the install.

I cut the AC bracket and got it on, but I can't get the oil return line on. It doesnt clear the exhaust housing. I decided not to go with a spacer under the turbo because it may have created issues with the downpipe fitting properly. Thanks anyway.

I guess the 4 inch will fit since PTE sold them for the SyTy. I don't really know how much bigger the OD of a 4 inch cover measures. After looking at how much I had to cut, I can tell you the 4 inch is going to be a tight fit.

I called PTE. They said there is no flange to use the stock oil return line with this turbo. They said it is designed to be used with a flange they sell with 10 -an line, which does not clear the bolts on the exhaust and compressor housings. They did not realize this. Looks like we are all going to be copying the braided line Spooldup made.

Keep a parts list if you would... I'll be needing all this junk in a few weeks.

Did you have to grind down the housing on the turbo as well??

Hey, you should bring that turbo to the MI meet.

It takes me like 47 minutes to get my fender wells out.

It should be in by then though... If it is I'll open the dump and we'll cruise around some residential neighborhoods at 11pm.

opening the dump with this turbo for speed is useless. The boost is all over the pace and takes forvever to get there. It's loud though 8) . I made a list of all parts need on the original gp thread like a week ago. I don't feel that you 4" guys have any chance of using a/c.

I thought his install may differ slight since he has, (im assuming he has) the stock IC. I guess it would matter...

Spooldup's list is what I used. I am using the stock i/c for now. I agree, that there is very little chance of the 4 inch guys keeping the AC.

Let me revise my last post. I put my AC back in tonight. After grinding my AC compressor down to fit the turbo in, there is no way the 4 inch turbos are going to fit with AC. If someone gets it in, it will be amazing.

you just have to know which center sections and housings to use. I know what to use and sometimes it takes a combination of parts manufactored by different turbo companies to make work. I have put a 80mm turbo on a syclone with pte turbine housing, stock manifolds and AC and didnt have to cut anything. Granted the inlet starts getting close to the radiator, but with a cobra 90 and tight radius trans fitting all is well. Doesnt it suck to be the guinee pig at your own expense? Sometimes cheap deals dont end up being so cheap in the end.

we are having some custom standoffs machined to attach the stock oil return, similar to the ones that PTE made for the original syty turbo kits, but with the smaller mitsu sized flange on both ends. theres issues anytime something "new" is done. i have been begged for quite a while to make these turbos available, and did so as a favor to the community by putting my own money into it. PTE didnt want to make these turbos, and i had to order a LOT of them to even get them to do it. the centersection is shorter than a typical PTE turbo, and that makes the fit a problem. no one has said yet that it doesnt fit. only that there is some clearancing to be done. once the oil return issues are worked out, the install isnt that bad. no one is a guinee pig here, and thats a pretty cheap shot. you dont see me in here criticising your frakenstein turbos? although i would personally never build an 80mm turbo with an .85 syty housing. :-? whatever..... rolls off my back like water off a duck.

I dont think it is a cheap shot at all b/c when you are the first to do something you are esentially the "guinee pig" Never said being a guinee pig was a bad thing, but obviously some people were mislead about the install.

As for the 80mm turbo. Sometimes the customers think they know everything, so you give them what they ask for. Granted it wasn't my suggestion, but you cant knock it till you try it. So we took a standard .85 pte housing (the only thing available), modified the piss out of it and in the end he was happy so thats all that matters. The point being it fit without cutting, not that it was for everyone. Bet alot of people thought Wallers setup was rediculous. I know I was skeptical, but it seems to work for him. He has atleast proven to himself that the turbo is working by pulling additional information from the exhaust system.

I don't think Mike was trying to slam ya. It seems to me that he was inferring that he had 'been there, done that' a time or two, like so many others have.

mabe im being rash, that just doesnt sound friendly to me. sounds pretty shitty to me. mikes BB centersections are too long and have to use a cobrahead, mine are too short and have to have the AC bracket clearanced..... in the end theres pains for both. i hear ya on the customer always knowing it all....... after dealing with that idaho guy. hell, i wouldnt be surprised if that 80mm you had to build went to idaho as well. anyway....

what counts is we are making the support parts available for people reguardless of weather PTE will support this turbo configuration or not. i bust ass to make available to people what they want. people have asked me so many times for these BB turbos, "when is PTE gonna make them?" they wernt! ever! they dont want to make anything for us because the number they stand to sell is small. theres not a lot of sy/ty's. i was able to sway PTE to build a single run of these by shelling out a HUGE sum of money. i ordered 6 of these at once. and paid upfront. is anyone else going out on a limb like that for the syty community? im bending over backwards for this community. mabe i should have taken more politics, and les engineering in college, because i seem to be unable to get people to recognize whats going on behind the scenes. "parts for less and perfect customer service" thats what id like to say i offer this community. i didnt "mislead" anyone into thinking they were just gonna bolt this turbo kit together and not have to do any work. i couldnt have, because i didnt even know what the install involved untill spooldup started installing his. we worked together to find the partnumbers for the various fittings, and he figured out what had to be done to clear the AC. he even went as far as taking pictures so others would understand what was involved. its posted in the GT35R Group Purchase thread clear as day. i never mislead anyone about these turbos as mike suggests. if anyone was mislead it was me..... i was mislead to think that this community would appreciate someone going to bat for them. and that appreciation would be shown for someone that offered a resonable price on stuff that all the other vendors mark up %30+. i was mislead into thinking that this community actually wanted more vendor options. its been said in the past and ill say it again.......

some syty people are like evil little kids..... they used to try and kick you in the nuts when you were in 4th grade. nothing has changed, they are just bigger now, and kick a lot harder. well im not leaving, guess its just time i get some thicker skin. cause looks like im gonna need it with all you ball kickers around here. vendors and owners alike.

Erue, i can appreciate what you said. It's just that there have been a couple issues which several of your customers have brought to my attention regarding these turbos, so hopefully you are figuring it out or taking care of it by now. Seen as how I have never used the garret dual bb, i cant seem to help them.
