One of the buick gurus told me if a gn has sat for years he would dump 20 quarts of oil into the motor, drain then refill with proper amount just making sure nothing crazy like that is recommended..

Drain the gas and refill with new prior to turning the key on.

"Drain the gas" is easy to say, tougher to do. I do it by putting a hose on the fuel rail and running the pump by introducing 12V to the test terminal on the firewall. Run the pump until the tank is empty. 3 year old gas shouldn't be too bad, put it in your pick up or kill weeds with it.

Other than the gas which can clog injectors, I don't worry too much about anything else.

I change the oil after I have had it running again for a few drive cycles. My thinking is that there may well be some surface rust on 1 or 2 cyl walls above the piston on cyls that the valves were open. No pre-fire procedure can remove this mild rust. Running the engine will remove it and it ends up in the oil and eventually the oil filter where it goes in the dumpster when the filter is changed. So run it long enough for the rust to get in the filter, then change it.

Before you put it in gear, make sure it still has brakes. No pedal to the floor surprises.

3 years isn't very long. Modern ethanol gas can do damage in that amount of time, but you shouldn't have any real problems. Change the gas, be sure it has brakes and the tires have air; fire it up and go for a drive.
