Head work question

I just bought some syclone heads and wanted to see what kind off work i could do to them without making the ECU freak out. i wanted to machine the intake and exaust ports, do a 2 or 3 angle valve job, and upgrade the springs/rockers. i was told that the syclone/typhoon computers are very easy to piss off. do you think this would set off any codes? im not changing combustion chamber size or anything.

If you make any significant changes to the VE you will affect the calibration required to for it to run optimally.
How much can you increase VE without doing some chipping? Dunno. Hard to measure. Fuel pressure can be used to some extent to compensate.

The ECM uses speed-density. It calculates the amount of air going into the engine while others use mass-airflo to measure the air going in the engine.

Since it calculates the air flow into the engine something like a cam change in conjunction with your ported heads will definitely need some recalibration.

well overall do you think its worth it? i plan on doing a full exaust system that will flow better and do all the low buck IC mods i can shortly after puting the better flowing heads on.

the reason i bought new heads is because i need a valve job, but i cant have the downtime because my ty is my daily driver. so i saw these on ebay, got em for $50 and thought why not have em ported and do larger valves? if its a lost cause i dont want to blow the $200-$500 but if its worth it, well its worth it.

Lets see, to burn more fuel you'll have to piss off the computer, so to make more power you'll have to piss off the computer, so why spend money not to piss off the computer.

BTW: Do you have datamaster? It won't piss off the computer..

no im a poor bastard and will have to wait a couple weeks to buy datamaster. i did buy an ALDL (?) cable and i have a laptop. im gonna throw the limited use ver. of datamaster on it and check it out.

go ahead and get them ported.
it'll not throw a code.
it would b happpiest with a chip recal, but as mentioned above, playing with fuel psi will keep u rich enuf on top to work ok.

I agree with rockvillespeed, port 'em real good and crank on the fuel pressure, this is a good way to make more power with a stocker.

Seriously though, these truck can be a bitc* to work with, why make it any harder? Start with datamaster and a completely stock truck, meaning stock heads, get it running good and have some fun before it blows up.

Now if your looking for more power, start with your biggest restrictions, intake, exhaust, and the turbo. The stock heads may not be great, but there way down on the list.

only reason im doin headwork is because these were cheap, and i need valve guides. but yea the exaust is my 1st performance mod. i'll probably have that done way before i attack the valve guide situation.

I understand the money thing, but soon after you do the head work you'll understand. I've had half a dozen calls this week, people looking for a custom chip because they didn't listen in the first place. Anyhow, I'm done talking to the wall.

why dont you just buy a stock set if L35's and be done with it. They will bolt on and have no problems and they will out flow a set of ported stockers.

ive never heard of L35s, are they just stock vortec heads? i know L36s are vortec 5.7s...

Awesome looking Syclone BTW. looks badass in red.

Hey, Bud, I presume that that picture is Jim Carrey and not U, Huh ?
lol last i checked

Wow. i could just snatch the heads off my 94 blazer that i have for sale. think anyone would notice the loss of power?

are L35s the same combustion chamber size or do i need to use a thicker head gasket?
