Helmets

This is probably a stupid question but:

I need to buy a helmet so that I can go to the dragstrip with my Sy. Can I get away with an open face helmet, or do drag strips make you wear a closed face helmet? I ask this, because I have the chance to pick up an open face hlemet for pretty cheap from a guy at work (he rides motorcycles).

Thanks,
Chris

spend the money on a new one. you can run a open face helmet (dale earnhart style) but I wouldnt recomend it they can and have been proven to rotate off your head in crashes. spend the money buy a decent closed face. make sure it is SFi aproved and now you can get snell 2000 too.

here is my helmet

Some of the road race tracks are now requiring Snell 2000 helmets. It's only time before the drag strips do the same. Also, do not get a motorcycle helmet. Get one designed for an enclosed car. The helmets are made and designed differently for the different applications. In a car accident, your head bounces off many more surfaces, but not as hard. In a motorcycle accident you get one really hard impact onto the concrete. The helmets are designed with this in mind.

A full face helmet is highly recommended. It will provide much more protection for you.

And the question you have to ask yourself is, "How much is your head worth?"
