Re: Help identify sound

That's good. No metal in the filter is great news. Rockers loose. Are any of the studs pulled? It would be odd pulling several though. To get several loose rockers.

Re: Help identify sound

I'm gonna check later today, I was too busy drinking and bbqing to get any further. I still have my old filter from before, I'm gonna cut that one open today and check it to be sure.

I don't want to pull the motor again but the idea of an LS1 sounds really good if I must be honest.

Re: Help identify sound

The rockers were loose, but nothing crazy. Only 3 valves were good, the others I was able to easily spin the pushrods. Adjusted all of them again, and the noise is still there. It sounds like its coming from the timing chain area. Once the engine cools down, Ill feel around there to see if thats it and crawl under the truck to see if the noise is louder under there.

Not looking foward to pulling this motor again.

Re: Help identify sound

I have a new turbo and everything in the steering is brand new.

I let the motor cool down and felt the timing cover for anything hitting it, nothing. Jacked the truck up and the noise is much louder, coming from the oil pan.

I'm pissed off at this motor, might pick up a Vortec motor and rebuild it instead.

Re: Help identify sound

Finally found out where the noise was coming from. I had to pull the fan off, water pump pulley off to be able to touch the middle of the timing cover while running the engine. On the top part, I couldn't feel anything. In the middle, I felt it. Pulled the cover off and found one of the cam sprocket bolts busted, and the other two were loose. Got all the parts to fix it right now, I'll get it done today though. Only the head of the bolts were rubbing on the cover, nothing else.
