Re: help with ic pump

I think they come on intermittent. There could be a sensor or a set temp for it to kick on. I am not positive. I don't really like the water to air setups on the trucks. On my new project typhoon I am learning all about them. I recently had some issues. Was experience foam and froth in upper intercooler chamber. I didn't know what to think. I Kept digging and found a pinched hose.

I had a chip, and it had engaged the pump on full time.

I think, unless you have a wire clipped or spliced it will run all the time. With ignition on.

Re: help with ic pump

Just hot wire the pump so it runs with the truck whenever it runs....who wants to have already hot coolant flowing thru when it decides to kick on vs. Already having it flowing and keeping the temps down a bit more than with the stock setup. Either is fine...I just hot wired mine.

Re: help with ic pump

On a stock truck, the IC pump gets it's power from the fuse at the back of the alternator, and then runs through one of the 2 relays over the distributor(the one with the yellow wire). Maybe your relay is crapping out, and staying turned on when you first tested it. If you have a different chip, a lot of them will be set to run the pump at all times. If it doesn't, you can make it run constant by splicing that yellow wire to ground. I put mine on a switch so I can turn it off and on when I want to. The ECM controls this ground wire, and turns it on when temps reach a certain point. My guess is your relay was doing something funny that day.

Re: help with ic pump

My turbotweak doesn't turn on the pump until the engine coolant hits 100 degrees. It only runs when the truck is running.
