Hi from Poland

Hello from Poland / Europe

Always liked small fast SUV's. Love the big guys also, but after like 10 years of rolling in Cummins/Duramax I decided to check out how things are in this tiny beast. So few days ago I got myself a 1992 Typhoon. Apparently this is one of the Saudi versions.

It went from hand to hand in Poland for few years. Time will tell how long will it last for me.
I plan to use it as a daily city commuter. Is it ok for that - time will tell. Drove it home for 500 km, and got few ideas what's in store when driven daily when it comes to creature comforts :) It goes fast I have to say, as much as I can push it right now - since the transmission is barely holding on. Few things have been neglected when it comes to taking care of the car, there are few mods done by previous owners.

Things done :

- -A/R 60 m24 turbo ( first impression is that the turbo is way to small - need to drive it more to figure everything out )

- 2 Fuel maps switch ( in car ) 12 PSI and 20 PSI + Snow Performance Methanol injection

- Kenne bell air iduction kit, fuel regulator, oil pump, bigger throttle body
- 3 inch exhaust
- ATR battery relocation kit ( its now in front of the right wheel )
- kenne bel aux intercooler
-60lbs injectiors
- taylor cables
- atr/kyb shocks
- Z06 front breaks
- C4 sawblades rims with 275
- rear diff from 2002 sonoma with LSD
- rear disk breaks

All in all at first glance it is in a good shape but ;

- tranny is almost gone - shes getting crazy under acceleration. I am thinking about 4L80

- that idea with 275 tires is a bad idea - when I lock my steering wheel - tires rub on the inner side of the fender. I need to go back to 245 or 255 top. But I have to get 17s since 16 wheels wont fit over bigger breaks.

- car is way to low. bigger bumps and front tire hits the rim of the bumper. I need to go a bit higher all over, especially front.

- Gauges cluster - well that is a terrible. No info whatsoever. Are the normal US versions around to switch them ?

- I think the guy before me drove the car few times without front shaft - just as RWD, and things are not right under there I'm afraid. Got to take to the workshop and check things out.

- audio - terrible. When I get every mechanical part right I will change that weird sounding thingy.

Overall I need to make it more every-day friendly and then give it a bit more juice, within reason. 450-470 is my goal. More than than its getting expensive and not good for a daily.

Hello and welcome.

Looks like a Saudi with the.metric gauges or the old school.

If you give us the last 4# of vin you could figure out more on it.

Re: Hi from Poland

I looked up your truck on sport machine truck registry. It indicates a Saudi build conversion ( export ).

Appears it resided in Riyadh. Also says the truck was Frost white/argent.?? Check the truck out a little further. Like the jambs, pull up some carpet maybe. Can't tell by the fire wall.. Looks black too but if you remove the pass. Side inner plastic kick panel cover you should see what color the vehicle really is/was. Its quite simple. 4 philips head screws. There are a few owners on here with Saudi typhoons and the few I know of are white/silver. Don't know if they all are though maybe some one else can key us all in on the Saudi breakdown.

Theres a few things that make one of these "Saudis" a Saudi. One is the special metric gauge cluster I see you can't stand.

Other than that I wanted to mention the truck looks very clean. Be careful you don't wipe out your cladding jogging your suspension. That plastic stuff isnt cheap

Re: Hi from Poland

Hi again, you ended up getting me very curious over night.. I did a lot of research on my own end ( on Saudis) and found out a little information.

There were other color Saudi conversions. Including black, red, teal and of course white. White seems to be the most popular color offered. ( all ones I have seen on board currently owned are white/argent). White makes the most sense for a vehicle going to the sand box. That's why I figured they were all white.. Until I dug in.

I also saw another post from another member from 2011 and funny it was another Greetings from Poland post. They had mention how they purchased a buddy's typhoon.. It was in need of work. Funny thing is as I kept reading he said the # was 0642.:D

Strange thing is one thing says white, another says black/black. I may be mistaken on your vehicle color due to info inacuracey) sorry.

Re: Hi from Poland

I have not found any clues about it being white. Did not look to much tho. Yea - that guy might be a buddy 2 owners before. They trashed the car a lot. It's not that bad - but every part is screaming for service. Going over 70MPH makes it rattle like crazy, vibrate. I hear humming noise from front diff, driveshaft is out of wack. I will slowly take it back to good working condition.

I will explore some more with they mystery of the original color in the future :). I kinda like it black - its more nasty that way.

Re: Hi from Poland

It's probably black/black.no need to dig into it. Enjoy your truck. I just did some research and one was inaccurate

Re: Hi from Poland

The easiest way to check the OG color on a Ty is to fold the back seat down then lift up the metal flap that trasitions the cargo area to the seat..Under that flap are some studs that bolt the seat brackets down. Those studs are the factory color 999/1000.
