There is a 1992 ty in my area for sale for $9,000. I went and checked it out and it is in really good condition. Only bad thing is there is 170,000 miles on it. The engine was rebulit and has 60,000 miles on it and the transmission only has 20,000. It has a few things done to it, extra intercooler, K&n filter, bigger turbo wheel, ATR exhaust, along with a $2000 stereo. I took it for a drive and it drives very well. The maitnence that comes around at 150,000 miles was all done and the only thing he had to do, other than change the oil and regular things, in the last year was a tune up. It hasn't been inspected yet but he is gonna do that for me and my uncle who is a mechanic is going to check it out. I really want to get it but my parents think it is going to be a money pit. They're not even paying for it, I am with money from my grandfathers will. I just think that with the price I cant pass it up, considering Kelly Blue Book value is about $13500, if some things did go wrong, I would strip the stereo and sell the truck and probably make money( I hope I wouldn't have to do this though). Please let me know what you guys think.

Some people may disagree with this but;
Older trucks with that kinda mileage are money pits. Even if it was in good condition you will still be replacing parts. Even with low mileage SyTy's we have to replace parts from time to time. Just when it seems like EVERY part has been replaced something else goes wrong (running into this problem with the salt sled which has higher mileage). Yeah it looks great, but it has nickled and dimed me.
$9000 sounds a little high for a truck with that many miles to me. IMO you would be better off waiting for a better deal with lower mileage.
Don't base your decision off of what I say, it is just my opinion.

All other typhoons I have seen for sale locally either have about 80,000 miles on everything and are being sole for $14000 or more or have like 40,000 mile and are almost $20,000.

Well, with that many miles I would for sure try and get the price down.
Yeah, sure the engine and trans have fewer miles but you have to think of the rest of the truck. It all depends on the condtion of the rest of the truck. If the engine and trans is sill in good condition, transfer case, all the bushings and bearnings ETC,ETC. I would say if the body is free of rust , cladding in good shape and the interior is in good shape then I would probably start off at about 7k-8500. And as far as the stereo goes, price wise, officially, that doesn't matter. Because the bank wont loan on the value of the stereo system + plus the truck.

Mileage is realative.Especially if those are interstate miles.I think it's a fair price if the truck is mint and has no rust.The undercarrige will tell you how a trucks been treated IMO.If it's clean and dry,you found a good one.I'd also want documentation on everything he "says" has been done.My old 94 L35 Sonome now has 190k+ and runs/drives/looks new with just normal maint.

I have a 161K mile Ty that I am trying to sell. Anyways your never going to to get 13,500 for the Truck. With that many miles, the market seems to be very weak as most people are scared off by the miles, $9K is probably a realistic asking price, but I would try talking him down alittle. As for all the maintenance was done, perhaps, but don't believe every word someone says, a lot people think a tune up, means all the maintenace was done...

If the stereo does have $2K in equipement, if was done in the mid 90's it might may be worth $300-500 maybe even less now. I know my $2500+ car stereo that I put in the mid 90's iwould be only worth $400-500 on ebay, now.

I don't trust anyone, but I feel I believe this guy when he said that a lot of the parts which wear out (joints around wheels and whatnot) were replaced. I also believe him that he didn't drive it hard because he drove 60 miles a day (highway miles) to work, and it selling it because of the bad gas mileage. The issue with a lot of salt on snow roads is not much of a problem here in Maryland, because the existing small mountains around are not far out, and there is rarely salt or snow on the roads. What would be an approximation of what I would have to spend a year on maitnence?
