How do I remove the turbo?

I am about to try and get my turbo out and was wondering If I should remove the inner fender and intercooler? Also how does the inner fender come off, and will it just lower out from the wheel well?

Yes, remove the inner fender. Bat and bat tray has to come out. It doesn't "just lower" you have to kinda work it out but it comes right out then the turbo is right in front of you. Well worth the effort IMO.

Not sure why you want to pull the fender. I took a few off with the fender on and had no issues, but definitely you are going to have to pull the IC. Why are you taking your turbo off?

My crossover intake pipe broke and took the turbo out. I did get the inner fender out, and it sure looks like it will be alot easier, just gonna soak the bolts in wd-40 for a while now.

I have no idea why you would need to remove any of the inter cooler stuff. Completely not necessary. Just the discharge tube from the turbo to the IC. I have my A/C bracket off when I pulled mine which I am going to assume added to the amount of room I had to get on those back 2 nuts.

You just have to unbolt the 2 oil lines and 2 coolant lines and move them out of the way. Also the intake tube to turbo obviously.

The double wrench technique is helpfull in trying to get enough leverage on those nuts to break them loose.

Depending on which bolt broke, I fixed a guys truck a couple years ago by taking out the heat exchanger and then I could see everything and was able to drill the stud out and put a bolt in it w/o taking the manifold off. Not like it will kill you to take the manifold off but....

The new guy says to the guys who have been messing with these things far longer and in far greater detail than the noob.

It probably would have been better to say that I didn't have to touch my IC system to get the turbo off. But it might have been a little more challenging with the A/C bracket in the way. With the A/C bracket attached, it might very well be easier to pull the upper IC.

I don't honestly know. I'm still going through the learning curve on these.

How are you making out Kyle?

I had to go do some other stuff, so hopefully I will be able to yank the turbo off tomorrow.

Has anyone installed a screen over the turbo before putting the orange elbow back on? Incase the pipe breaks and then the screen can stop the pieces from goin through, just a thought.

Re: How do I remove the turbo?

Ok, I got all the nuts off that hold the turbo on, now do I have to remove in coolant or oil line from engine side of the turbo before I try to yank it out? Will it just pull out or will I have to lower the downpipe or anything like that?

Thanks

Re: How do I remove the turbo?

Ok got everything disconnected, now i am assuming I have to loosend the downpiep somewhere, From what it looks like, that is all that is holding the turbo in place. Is the somewhere to loosen it to have a little more slack to get the turbo off the studs?

I think that line is holding the turbo in place, but I can't get awrench on it where it is. Or is it just that tight sitting on the studs still?
I don't quite follow what your saying, but none of the lines hold the turbo in place, the lines should all come of fairly easy, I think on one of them I had to double up a wrench to get it to break loose.

Yeah I was able to get all the lines off, the inside one was tricky though.

Yes, there is a bracket that is welded to the DP and it attaches to the bellhousing, so your gonna have to go under the truck to get at the bellhousing bolt and pull the bracket off.

Hopefully  do you still have the factory cat after the DP? if so you should be able loosen the clamp and get even more play.
