How many people have gone through a motor and/or trans

My truck has gone through one motor and one trans from the previous owner. People are blowing these up quite frequently, that I have observed. Are these trucks really made to go as fast as we want them to? So how many people have had an engine or trans go?

I am in the process of doing my trans. From what I have heard the 3rd gear clutche go on all 700r4's. It's a common GM problem. When they go... is another question. Mine went at 57000.

My truck is working on its third motor, fourth tranny, and third rear-end, the last rear end didnt blow up so i sold it before it did. Hopefully i can keep it together after this new phase of upgrades : )

There certainly are weaknesses with these vehicles, like any other. Perhaps even more than most any other. But I still say a lot of the problems arise from owner ignorance or simply pushing them too hard. Every vehicle has its limit. The typical SyTy owner is a bit more adept at finding it than someone who owns say a Buick.

My truck is on it's 3rd motor but original trans. I have had it for about 13k miles and haven't blown anything major and it all looks good still. I am sure my day will come though.

I've got the original engine and tranny in mine with over 107k. All stock until I got it, and now it's got a boost gauge, K&N in the stock box, and a hotwired Jabsco. I bought my 4.3L S-10 with 139k, and the tranny went at around 180k...

Like Dean said, it seems to be the ones who are pushing to get every last .1 out of the truck or who know nothing about their upkeep that have the most problems. I was kinda surprised when I test drove #1992 (first time in a Sy) and he said it had both replaced already...

Trans went out 1k miles after I bought it at 47,000 miles. 4K miles later dealer was gonna have the heads rebuilt(smoking on start-up, etc) by the shop of my choice. When they put it all back together the fuc*er "mechanic" realized a head bolt was in the cylinder just after it came out the side. New short block, rods, heads, etc(shop of my choice for a $4500 engine)then on my way to San Diego 500 miles later the trans went out again because they didn't line up the flexplate, torque conv. and engine properly. Trans #3 (second replacement) and engine #2 currently in w/ no problems. Replaced mine but except for the as*holes at
STEVEN'S CREEK PONTIAC GMC TRUCK
SAN JOSE, CA
maybe I'd be on only my 2nd trans, same engine(but I'd niss the new motor).

In some ways I look at buying mine with a new engine and trans as a plus. This way I know that everything is fairly new and I shouldn't have to worry because it has been done.

My sy is on motor #3. Was changed at 40000 under warranty for unknown reasons.

Last motor broke some ring lands, somthing to do with a hyperpuke chip and 87 octane gas, gee wonder what happened there.

No it wasn't me, bought it like that.

Current motor is running strong, just pulled the tranny out today for a freshen and new convertor, before it actually blows up.

Yep, new motor and trans for me too, as long as i get 75,000 miles out of her i'll be happy.

Fast car's arnt cheap, espically when you compare the syty to another car that can match its speed and power!!

I don't mind getting a new motor or trans,i just don't like those dirty mechinques that like to keep your truck for 3 months to put a new one in!!

Motor replaced once, tranny, in shop now getting 3rd tranny put in now(2 previous owner) Transmission is a serta gm replacement. I have been trying to find out the correct parts that our transmission should have from the factory. My TY is stock and I don't run it hard, eveything has been replaced short of the transfer case, and the rear end. I would just like it to hold up for normal driving!!

Sy still has the original motor, 129K. Tranny replaced 4 times. GMC ate the first at about 11K, ate the second at 25K, split the third with me (not under warranty, I bitched) at about 60K. Put in a TPI at 100K and have had no problems. Ring gear in rear went out at about 110K. Transfer case bought it at about 80K. Put a Bravada one in from the junkyard. No probs. Still original turbo. The truck blows smoke now so I imagine the rings are toast. Needs to have the motor cracked and freshened. Has an oil leak somewhere as well... Oh well, still fast...

Original motor and tranny and my Sy has 51K miles on it. I bought it at 46K miles from the original owner who was a car collector and supposedly took good care of it. Now that I have it I've done all the safety mods and use the best of everything in my motor and trans. I'm confident I can get 100K miles out of both engine and trans as long as I don't abuse it (e.g., keep knock under control, infrequent power launches, etc.)
