How much to cut off the stun-axel for ZR-1 front wheels?

I only had to cut off 3/16" of an inch. I used a hack saw and cut it by hand slowly to keep it straight. I then used a large bastard file to replace the chamfer back on the stub. There is still plenty of meat left on the axle and looks pretty much stock. If any work ever had to be done there would be no problem of starting the nut back on. When My wheels are put on the back of the stub is just barely touching the center cap. After you file it smooth rub some cosmoline grease on it or paint the stub to keep it from rusting.
