Sort of an odd reason to ask but what is it like there?

I will be starting my final year of med school in August and have the opportunity to live and work in the US for a month. One of the places I am looking at is Huntington, WV, for a 4 week obstetrics placement. It's going to be pretty hardcore - I am expecting to work 80hrs Mon - Fri then on call at the weekend and some reading either side of the day.

I was curious to know what it is like there and if I'll miss anything fun :D

I've been there a few times for business. Reason for the quantity of pizza shops is that Marshall university is there.
I've done work for the main hospitals there, but it's been a few years. Cabell is the main one I believe. I think they did a big addition in maybe 05? Some stuff going on there now, but I didn't go down there.

Doesn't look like you would have time, but you're welcome to head up to northern ohio, there's a bunch of us sy/Ty guys in Cleveland and north east ohio in general.

Lol - thanks guys :)

I haven't applied yet as I don't know what is the best thing to do to make my residency application (medicine, not US citizenship) as robust as possible and also where would I prefer to live. It's unbelievably hard to get medical work experience in the US as a foreigner so this is a huge opportunity.

Blue83z... how far are you from there? I also have a pending application with University of Louisville and am hoping to be able to teach Jeff Scott how to drive properly while I am there.

Mike - nice recollection! Unfortunately, the late nights, perennial on-calls and length of training tell me it may not be for me. Still, never say never!

Jeff - yeah, I've seen and done a few things that aren't all that fun. I have a few ideas up my sleeve if medicine doesn't pan out though. ;)

if you'd be working that much, I don't think you'd really care that much about your surroundings, since you wouldn't have anytime to enjoy them if there was something to enjoy.
