Hypethical question

Having a Mid engine I was wondering what the result would be if I were
to use a front mount A/A intercooler and run the intake plumbing all the
way to the front and back (about 6')

I know this is not the way to go but I wonder what to expect if I did go
this route

I think with that much piping you will have a bad lag problem. Not saying that it would'nt work but you will definately have more lag. I can understand your problem since your lacking for room on your project, but if you want to go with a front mount you would be better off with a water to air, then you dont have to route so much intake piping.

I think the biggest problem with the SyTy W/A setup is that there's no room left on the front of the truck for airflow. Adding fans and scoops and external CCHEs that are actually where the airflow is seems to help a lot. So long as you have good airflow through the CCHE, I think that would probably work just fine, as long as you're not trying for crazy-fast. Maybe go to a bigger CAC and/or CCHE to provide even more cooling, but the fact that it's liquid shouldn't make a whole lot of difference. And you could even put an icebox with a fancy flow switch setup up front for supercooling the IC coolant for races. =)

If you are easily able to put the w2a heat exchanger in the front of the vehicle like you suggested for the a2a (if Im off base it's because I dont know anything about Fieros), then you would have quite a bit of additional coolant volume. That long trip to the front of the car and back for the coolant can only be a good thing for keeping your air charge cool.

Also, someone on the forum was posting fantastic results with water(/alcohol) injection, possibly eliminating the need for an intercooler at all for stock boost levels.

Just some ideas.

I don't know if you want to cut your hood/trunk :) But look at Porsche Turbo IC set up. They got it in the rear on top of the engine, just an idea.............!!! And the new Subaru WRX have it mounted on top of the engine with a scoop in the hood.

i am not sure how close the engine > trunk setup is to a toyota MR2, but here, take a look at this guy, "Beast MR2". I think his A/A solution is genius, maybe a direction you could travel?

Interesting setup...
I considered it but did'nt go that route for two reasons
1) I did'nt think the fans or the location would allow enough air flow
2) The air flow I would get would be heated by a 300 hp engine just in front and exhaust system underneath (Fieros and MR2s get a lot of heat trapped over the rear deck at hwy speeds and also alot of the heated air does travel under the rear of the car and a lot of heat will migrate threw the rear wall, even with carpet and insulation)

a lot of fabrication for a lot of unknowns i do hope it works for him.
I'm pretty sure i will mount a syty lower heat exchanger up front and plumbed with .75 copper tubing back to the engine bay, which will then be plumbed with .75 heater hose

for 5 years I've been using .5" copper tubing for my upfront oil cooler and it works beautifully and may even release some heat threw the copper tubing, underneath the car to the engine in the back
