Ignition cutting out

Howdy all,

Seems to idle decent but will drop a cylinder or 2 when under load. Then the warmer the engine gets the more it will act up. Will start to pop and sputter if the gas is pushed past 1/4 pedal.

1992 Typoon with a tt chip. Does the same with stock chip. 3 bar map confirmed working. Timing is set correctly. Fuel press confirmed. Seems like coil or module is flaky.

Re: Ignition cutting out

I would look over and inspect all your plug wire boot ends. I went through about 3 wires early on. Cooked a few ends they were cheap silicon/rubber blistered causing arc wander. Its a good place to start then go over your dist. Cap and rotor. Inspect terminals so on..

Re: Ignition cutting out

I had a similar issue with it cutting out under load iand like Slycone said it was a damaged spark plug boot. I solved the issue with a set of Accel Extreme 9000 plug wires and installed a new set of NGK UR6's gapped at 28. Picked them up at Summit racing and had them the next day. I also slid some of the heat tube over each wire before terminating the ends.

Here is what I used
ACC-9001C
Spark Plug Wires, Extreme 9000 Ceramic, Spiral Core, 8mm, Black, 90 Degree Boots, Universal, V8, Set

NGK-7773
NGK Spark Plugs UR6 - NGK V-Power Spark Plugs

SUM-350160BLK
Summit Racing Equipment® Insulated Wire Sleeves
Wire Sleeving, Insulated, Slide-over, Silicone Rubber, Black, 25 ft. Length, Fits 8.65mm Plug Wire Diameter

Re: Ignition cutting out

Thanks for the reply gentleman.

I changed the plugs recently. The wires are in good condition. The boots all have thermal insulation sock on them.

I'm leaning toward coil pack and module.

Sounds like overboost to me.
