Installing PS Pulley

Well, another F-Up. I was trying to use the bolt that came w the rebuilt PS Reservoir/Pump to push on the Pulley, and it broke off. I guess I need to buy another Vise grip since I'm using my one on the broken bolt stub. The 2nd one is needed to hold the Pulley hub. It is so tight that I can't hold it w pliers.

I guess the bolt must have bottomed out, so I guess U can't allow it to do that. I'm not sure when U know if the Pulley is on all the way, but it is way off now because it doesn't line up w the Crank or Alt pulleys.

If I can't get the bolt out, I guess I'm really screwed.

Next time throw it in the oven @ 350 deg. for about 15-30 minutes.
Get your oven mitts out then slide it on.

Just for clarification...

You install the bolt until it bottoms out then,
you crank down on the square nut to push the pulley on.

If you were cranking on the bolt itself, yes it bottomed out like its supposed to.

The bolt is just giving you something solid to push against.

I had to hold both the bolt and the pulley to get mine on, major PITA.

A new pulley from AutoZone helped out alot. I had problems getting the old pulley on all the way before the bolt would strip out of the pump. Just bought a new pump($50), pulley($16) and hose($18) to solve all the problems.

PS Pulley

PS Pulley

Well, I bought another Vise Grip and with Max Power I got the broken bolt out of the PS Pump hub - by a bare margin. Almost twisted the end off, and then I'm really in trouble.

So, then I started driving the pulley on with some bolts - making sure to stop when the bolt bottomed out, and then go again w a shorter bolt. I have driven it on to within a ¼" of the mount bracket. Does anyone know if that is the clearance when the pulley is all the way on ?

Another question - How long is the 3/8" Coarse bolt that holds the pulley on ?
