I have the McCoy Vortech Heads from ATR with the marginal double gasket setup on the IM. U can only torque the damned thing to 10 Ft-Lbs. One of the gaskets has O Rings and plastic in it, so U just can't get any clamping force.
I am having vacuum problems, and I don't think that the Vac ball is leaking. I have a pretty wild Conley cam (normal lift, alot of overlap), so that could be part of the problem. I may try an additional vac reservoir.
I hear that there are some new, better gaskets around, does anyone know what new ones are available ?
I have been having problems getting the car tuned from the start, which is 2 years ago. I kinda suspect that the IM doesn't seal and may be leaking under high vac or high boost. My shop in Denver, Engines To Go, says that they can't find a leak w the "Smoke" Test, but I think U can only get e few #'s of pressure with those machines.
We had to make a number of mods to the McCoy setup. The valve springs were wrong (maybe one of the earlier versions of the heads ?) and wouldn't take the Crane Golds, so we swapped them out. Then there was occasional, sporadic interference between the pushrods and the holes thru the heads, which hung up valves on & off. This cost a fortune to diagnose, and we had to grind out the holes.
Now we are going to add an extra fuel pump - an external Walbro. Conley & I anticipated that, and he added an extra inlet to the rail, and I added an extra tube coming out of the fuel tank.
I missed the last 2 Nats, so hopefully we can get this F'ing thing straightened around for the next Nats. It has shown awesome acceleration at times, and has done 4 wheel burnouts @ 15 #.
