Morgan - Bill had a Tial external on his truck with a 20G. It was not routed back into the exhaust. Talk to him about how loud it was before you make a decision.

Mark, you missed the point of this whole post. This isnt about what I want to run, its about what everyone else or a majority want to run.

I was gonna go with the new Mini gate, but for now I think im just gonna go integral, and worry about other things at the moment. I can always upgrade later.

ok, i guess ill just say it, yes, i was talking about PTE's pipe.

im sorry, i dont wanna seem like im bashing a vendor or anything, cause that is not my true intent. But im the type that will call a spade a spade, and I dont like sometime, im not going to hold back my opinions to spare someone elses feelings, especially a business.

Fact of the matter is, the pipe I saw was discusting. The welds look like complete crap, splatter all over. The flange looked as if it was cut my Ray Charles with a hacksaw, and my buddies comment about the puck not being the greatest, kinda had me thinking of alternative options. When I got the price for this splatter weld hacksawed pipe, there was no way in hell I was going to waste my hard earned money on that.

Like I stated previously, I cant speak for the performance of the PTE pipe, but when I spend THAT much money, it not only better work, but look like sometime I would want to put in my truck as well.

Again, I dont want to start a flame war, this really isnt a big deal, and im sure PTE couldnt give two shits about what some punk in NJ thinks, so for those of you who are gonna reply with, "my brothers exgirlfriends stepfathers son works for PTE and I'm gonna tell him", please spare me.

I wanna do is hopefully provide the community with another option, i know everyone likes options :).

The only reason we are doing the more common PTE style flange first, is cause thats what I need, and if he is gonna make anything in the future, he's gonna need my help. Thats really all there is to it. If people feel there is no need for another pipe this style, then dont buy it, its not a big deal. Once things get rolling, Im sure other goodies are soon to follow :D

I have not only expressed everyones opinions, thoughts, and suggestions in this post about the downpipes, but about other products too.

Lastly, as per the happenings on the Turbo Buick GP, what happened was the sweeper die on the CNC bender broke in mid production, it took approximately a month for it to be repaired. The problem was out of Mease's hands. He did all he could at the time, when to problem was fixed, he filled the orders as quickly as possible. EVERYONE got thier downpipe, unfortunately some were late, thus all the problems on TB.com. Unfortunately, life happens but the problems were not deliberate, and uncontrolable.

Hopefully by this Sat if the weather is nice, the prototype will be on my truck and working.

You either have seen a shitty pipe or have standards higher than NASA inspector.

Every PTE pipe i've seen has very nice welds, comparable to what i've seen on Mike Lee's headers. The flanges, I believe is mild steel and is coated, but was definitely not hacksawed. At least the ones i've seen.

I can't believe we are talking about the same pipes here - if so, you are being beyond Corvette owner-anal.

Morgan I have the PTE downpipe on my truck and like everyone said it is pretty nice. As far as the external wastegate, I had a 40mm tial external mounted on the crossover pipe and it was realy loud. Almost to loud becuase you don't realize that when you go to punch it to go through a yellow light everyone in a four block radius can hear your truck coming. Yeah it was great for scaring people but it was not cool when i got pulled over by mr policeman about my truck being to loud going through a yellow light. But if you are loooking for sound have them put a cut out in your downpipe that will give you lots of sound. I love running open downpipe with the PTE setup

well.........i dunno what to tell everyone.....

maybe it was a fluke? I dont think im THAT anal about things, but I know what I saw. Like I said, I didnt want to make a big deal about it. I in no way wanna flame PTE, they have been in business for quite a while, and they know a hell of a lot more than I do when it comes to downpipes. All I can speak from is the one pipe ive actually held in my hands. Honesly ive never looked that close to a pipe when its on a truck. Either way, the next Northeast SyTy meet is just over a week away, there will be PTE pipe installed there, I shall go take a look. If those pipes are better then the one I saw, I will be happy to retract MOST of what I said, but fact still remains, the one I held in my hands, did not put a smile on my face when it came to quality, thats all.

I think this is a damn sharp downpipe, and I'm pretty strongly against anyone copying it... not that I can do anything about it.

well, if it gets copied (which i highly doubt) it will be by accident, cause try as I might, I was unable to obtain a PTE pipe to compare with the ATR on my truck. The ATR isnt getting copied either for obvious reasons.

Having said that, how maybe different ways can you squeeze a DP into a SyTy? Perhaps its like a Tootsie Pop, and the world my never know. :D

I've talked to JS about doing this, but I don't have the money for it right now... I'd like a stock-replacement downpipe like the one he posted, made for the opened-up service port on a stock turbo. I saw Christian Dionne's version of this over a year ago, and he said it solved all the stock boost problems. Afterwards, I saw something similar which turned out to be a PTE downpipe. And now the JS version. I don't know who actually had the idea first, but I like it.

I'm always in favor of PnP parts. While it's usually not a problem if you have to tweak something to get it to work, it always seems to lead to problems later. Your slightly-tweaked ThisThing causes you to have to slightly tweak your ThatThing, and so on, until you end up with a WhatsIt that requires a complete machining to fit with all your other "slightly-tweaked" stuff.

From my understanding, the CD/JS downpipe would work on a showroom-stock truck (though it wouldn't really help anything). Then when you get a 20G or some time to work on the stocker (probably just as easy to do it at the same time you're swapping downpipes though, I'd guess), it would provide much better results using the opened service port. That's what I want. I don't want to have to get a PTE setup or rig up an external (I've considered it, but I'd prefer to leave it as stockish as possible) just to get decent boost control on my otherwise stock truck. From what I've heard about the service port/downpipe mod, I think it would provide many people with acceptable boost control for stockish trucks, without having to do a bunch of other stuff.

Ok, I'm done blabbing now...

this is exactly why i have jeff building me that dpipe right now.
20g hybrid, worked heads, extrude manifolds, ultimate, nothing resembling high level boost control presently.

and copy/schmoppy - jeff is the only one building exactly what i want to the best of my knowledge.
i'm happy to give him the money to do it, and i couldnt care less where the idea came from - he stepped up and made it happen.
personally, i couldnt be happier - this is exactly what anyone with a mitsu turbo needs...assuming 25psi plus isnt a good thing??
set at 15 i get at least 18, set at 22 i have seen over 27!!
and yes, it rattles lke a bitch when it happens.
i cant understand how i still have ring lands in teh slugs.
anyway, public thanks to js designs.
assuming he makes me a nice prety pipe, of course...lol.

I don't like copy cat, undercut businesses. I'd rather see some new products. Not to tear into Racetronix, but they started out offering hotwire kits & matched injectors for Buicks.

Racetronix is an offshoot of an electronics company I started back in October 1987 just before leaving employment of Motorola as an EET. For over twelve years my company has manufactured race electronic items and provided tuning services for the local market. Some of these items have ended up in Super Street cars running well into the seven second range. Racetronix entry into the fuel system market was sparked by Agostino Racing Engines and a couple other local shops requiring a simple reliable solution to the ever growing horsepower demands of the F and Y body cars. Racetronix then expanded the fuel system line to include other vehicle platforms many of which are unique to the market.

On the topic of PTE… I have nothing but the utmost respect for Harry. When he was in town for a visit I drove him around, had dinner and had some good laughs. I regularly bump into Harry at the track and most recently at the PRI show. Harry is a sharp business man and he has built a thriving business though much hard work. Let us not kid ourselves here on the issue of what you might consider fair market value and copycat businesses / product. PTE and almost every other HP business out there has product on the market that might be considered a copy, too cheap / aggressive for the next vendor.

A few points worth mentioning:
- PTE’s pricing on certain turbos are way below what other vendors consider FMV.
- PTE continually ran ads for Walbro pumps at pricing between jobber & WD.
- PTE has bundled injectors and harnesses worth $100’s of dollars with F.A.S.T. systems while keeping the package price the same as F.A.S.T.’s jobber price for the ECM alone.

Although these sales have agitated a few people in the industry they have also served to improve market awareness and at the same time help build PTE’s customer base. I don’t begrudge Harry his option to run these sales or any other vendor who has the buying power and means to co-ordinate them providing they are not destabilizing the FMV. Heck, I have taken advantage of some of Harry’s aggressive pricing to my own personal benefit. Thanks again Harry and keep up the good work! If you have a product that is worth protecting then patent it. If someone takes that product and can build it better, cheaper and faster then all the power to them. This is how a free market works and one of the freedoms we fight to protect. As I stated above, there is not one vendor out there who does not use price as a means to draw people in. For every questionably similar product that Racetronix manufactures there are a dozen which are unique and the product line is growing rapidly.

A couple points worth mentioning:
- Racetronix has manufactured some electronic wiring components for PTE
- Racetronix manufactures electronic components for many HP vendors for which the buying public is unaware or might assume are copies.
- Racetronix focus is in design and manufacturing not retail sales which are limited to the web and select items.

I find it peculiar that you took the opportunity to post an angular reply to this thread when I opted not to disclose sensitive information on upcoming product and here we have yet another thread where Racetronix is being drawn into the picture. Hopefully this post will open your eyes to the bigger picture. If not then at least the readers of this thread can see through the smoke and mirrors.

Please refrain from posting any further information regarding Racetronix as you are clearly misinformed. If you have a question please ask but do not assume.

Thank you!
Jack
