Re: Intercooler ID

That's a head-scratcher alright. Previous owner spray painted it black to cover white over-spray. I wanted to clean it up so I had the cleaning shop at work strip it for me. Well, the tech left it in the strip tank too long, and it etched the fins right off!

Re: Intercooler ID

looks like a 3" core just by eyeballing it with custom end tanks. Measure the core, minus the end tanks, and search online for a match. You will have to have the end tanks fabbed but most shops should be able to take care of that no problem. If you need a recommendation, I know of an incredible fabricator in Birmingham, AL who can help you.

Re: Intercooler ID

I've already done the measuring. The core is approximately 15 x 10 x 4, and that size core is impossible to find. Hence I need to contact the company to find their core source. But, if it was made by this Dequick guy several years ago, then the chance of getting info from him is slim to none. So far I've found that a 3.5" core Garrett or Bell will work. My plan is to have one of the fabricators at work cut these old tanks and weld them onto the new core.

What is this fabricators name? I'm in B'ham and could probably utilize him..

Looks like a cas dequick core. This is my setup and to me it looks like the same core. You should be able to find a shop to slide new fins in there...

It does look like those cores! Part of the problem with the fins is that the inside fins got damaged too. Although they are not completely gone like the outside ones. Thanks for the tips though!

The more I research new cores and intercoolers, the more I realize that it might be better and easier to go with a new behind-the-grill setup. I never liked the intake pipe snaking across the engine compartment and blocking the oil filler anyway. I would like to have all piping on one side of the engine. It looks much cleaner that way. And since I've removed the AC condenser, there's plenty of room in front of the radiator. Something like this:

Not only that, but putting the IC behind the grill would free up space below and I can install a dump pipe on my wastegate.
