Intermittent starting problems

I am a new owner of a 1992 Typhoon. It runs OK (could run better).

I have experienced (on occasions) a starting problem. When I turn the key, all I get is a click. Like what you hear when the battery is run down. I try the key several times and it starts strong (no starter drag).

I cleaned and tightened the battery connections at the battery and the starter. They were not corroded but I cleaned them any way.

I removed the starter and checked the solenoid on the starter for wear. It looks good and works on the bench.

Is there a sequence of sensors or relays that the truck must go through in order to start? Maybe one of them is preventing a dependable start?

Suggestions please.

Sounds as if you have the typical starter wiring problem... There's a Hot shot relay available to correct the problem ...

typical fixes to the starter click:

hot shot relay, or replace the purple wire down by the starter, then wrap the whole thing with a starter heat shield.

I will take your suggestion but I must add to my description of this problem that this problem occurs whether the engine is cold or hot.

Please talk to me about the hotshot relay. Do I use the purple wire to trigger the relay and run a heavier wire from the batery to the starter solenoid? Is there a web site I can go to for clarity?

dude just dont tell me your trucks last four on the vin are 0057.....very bad truck very very bad. :evil: that truck needs to be put down
