internal engine questions

Re: internal engine questions

The not so latest info is that the second compression gets more gap than the top.

I heard thats what is done now on NA engines to reduce top ring flutter at high Rpm

from what Im seeing from Mahle the second ring is run a little tighter or the same gap on forced induction engines

Re: internal engine questions

CP=Carrillo’s web site call for:

Street/Hi Performance:
Top ring Bore X .0045
Second ring .004 - .008 bigger than top ring
Drag and road racing:
Top ring Bore X .005
Second ring .004 - .008 bigger than top ring
Nitrus/turbo/ supercharged
Top ring Bore X .0055
Second ring .004 - .008 bigger than top ring

Since I have their pistons I used their recommendations. Mahle might be different. I didn't look them up. I seem to have seen the reason somewhere but don't have it.

From what I've been finding.028 ring gap is what they say. So that for the top and .032 for second?
