I was moving through traffic yesterday, moving around 40ish and heard some really throaty exhaust from behind me. I see a pretty clean looking IROC-Z in my mirror, he's riding my bumper so I know he's taunting me. Continues to follow me into a wide open stretch of two lane. Goin about 45, let him get around me, then boom! Nailed it, put a couple lenghts on him and he could never catch back up. We both slow down for a stop light and I signal him into a gas station. He says he recently rebuilt his TPI and had dual flowmasters on. He asked me if mine was one of the blazers that they put a V8 in, I told him"YES".

How well are the IROCs supposed to run? All I know about those Camaros are that they had TPI, and ran better than the other 80s models.

they were great driving cars, but i think they ran almost like the mid to late 80's mustang gt's...i think they were about a 15 second car (unmodded) give or take a tenth or two...also depends on whether it was the 5.0 or 5.7 tpi...nice kill anyways...still counts

Depending on engine, (305 or 350). 350 could only be had with automatic. A completely stock 350 model would tipically run mid to high 14's depending on the car and driver. Some simple mods would put them in the low 14's or even high 13's. Nice kill, glad to see some action on the kill board. I have had my ty since last fall and have been dying to run something, just can't seem to find anything. Saw a 5.0 up ahead today, by the time I got through traffic and got to him, he turned off. Darn. The weather will break here soon, maybe the action will pick up.

Yeah, when I was talking to him I noticed it was a automatic. Pretty rare to see a clean IROC around here, although there are a lot of beaters. I was impressed that my Ty did so well at a 45mph punch. I run stock except for a dynomax muffler and and upgraded stock IC setup ( shurflo, 3/4 lines thru fenderwell, aux CCHE). To date I am still undefeated, I have a pretty good idea of who I should and shouldnt race from reading other posts. This is my first "kills" post, although I have had other encounters in the past few months:

90' something, highly modded z28, not sure if something was wrong with his car, but I have heard a lot about this car, could have been BS cause it does have a HUGE wing on it (dumb lookin).

81' full size blazer 383 stroker, misc. other, gutted for weight, this one was actually my closest race.

New body Mudstain GT, thoroughly pissed this guy off! :lol:

350-Z, by far the easiest kill.

Several new body cummins, a few hemis, who do these guys think they are?

a few imports, lots of noise, little movement on their part!

Wish their was a track or an AWD dyno around here, my ty seems to run pretty gnarly for stock, dont know much about the history on it.

You are going to clean up in Farmington. It's not that small of a town but there isn't ^%$@ there to race. Do you pick on the little kids at Sonic? It's been to long since I have been back home so I don't know where the fast cars hang out now. There used to be an old man that raced every one in his bottled red 92' Vett, go pick on him. I think the TY could take him. Its' not that fast(no traction). It’s all 5.0’s and weak ricers there. I am going to visit my pops this June so if the TY is in FL before that I will bring it. Then we both can make some money off the farm town kids :lol:

Wow TYRODD, I see you have had several encounters. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio and the cruising is hot and heavy here in the summer time. Usually not a problem finding something to play with. I have had more races in some of my other cars than I care to mention. Just can't seem to find anything in the TY. Although I bought it at a slow time of the year, most people starting to put there cars up for winter. I am sure as soon as the weather breaks around here the streets will be flooded with opportunity. Tons of hotrods around here, old and new. We have a local cruise inn on Friday nights that will attract about 600 cars or more on a good night. Lots of fast cars out here too that are street driven. I have a big block chevelle that runs 11.70's and is street driven regularly and there are still plenty of cars around here faster than that. My TY is not nearly that fast but I am anxious to run something from a light anyway because I just love the way this thing launches. Later on, Larry Jones.

This was my 89 Iroc and I had it modded up w/flowmasters, K&N and some other minor fine tuning and I still could smoke it in the Syclone. I had my buddy give my a 3 car lenth head start when I was driving it and he still caught me and blew past. It had a 350 TBI in it...

believe it or not...i had that identical car in 90...same color, same everything...5.7, auto, and had the third brakelight in the rear hatch spoiler...i remember that the wheels were slightly upgraded from 88 as well as the location of the rear spoiler light...i love the way that car handled...it sounded bitchin from the cockpit, as well...kinda been on the lookout for one lately...

I kinda have to got back on word a little bit as I really did like the car except for the performance and I just thought they were pretty flimsy. I would love to have one again but it would need to be a 90 or 91 white covertable w/low miles... Auto tranny...

Sweet IROC! Yeah, It seems everyone and their dog has a 5-no mudstain in Farm town, or a CRX with a top fuel esq wing on the back. No one really knows what the Ty is around here, makes me appreciate it even more. Farmington has pretty mild winters so almost all season racing! only drawback is that were pushing 5K in elevation. Not a big fan of street racing here though, San Juan county has one of the highest police patrol rates in the US-no joke. Yeah, all the kids hang out at the sonic on 20th or in the hastings parking lot, Im 19 and even I wont offiliate with them! Hey overboost, if you do decide to visit Farm town, let me know and we'll talk cars. I work at ALs Trailer Sales. I need to talk face to face with another sytyer, the people with sytys around here dont drive them so they dont count/help .

We are only 635ft ASL and your quote on top except Syclone. No one around here knows what it is. The summer time is different because we get alot of tourist traffic because of the lake and all. 600 miles of shoreline and tons of chicks, for the single guys anyways!

Yeah, fo sho on the chicks. Its great, girls around here get a real kick out of the Ty. First they think its just a minitruck, take em' for a ride and they say "oooh, its even got a backseat!"

Did you have your phoon when you lived here? I dont remember seeing one...ever. Maybe you drove something else then back then? Do you ever remember seeing a black 70' El Camino W/dark cherry stripes? Thats my dads "toy". He had the engine (454 bored to 461) built for it at S&S. The engine is the envy of of all the hot rodders around here. My dad doesnt waste his time racing anyone around here.

I didn't have the TY when I lived there. If I did you would know it. No, I drove a black 89' s-10 with ZEX and a red 91' turbo probe (20 PSI). I won a lot of races with them both. I picked up the TY here in Italy. I think I remember seeing that El Camino.

I get a lot of looks with the TY here. I get crowds around it when I take it to the car shows here. I left farm town about 4 or 5 years ago.
