knocking

I was wondering if the knock sensor can be relocated to a different position. I think that it is picking up some knock from the stall converter in the transmission and making it retard about 3 degrees in third gear around 4500 rpms. I would appreciate any ideas.

Can you explain or show pictures to me on how they have done this? Thanks for your reply.

next to thermostat housing there is an unused bolt hole if you rerouted your ic lines thru the fender. otherwise this will work using the same hole only you have to remove the existing bolt.

1 get a bolt that matches the thread for this hole.
2 weld a 1/4 npt pipe coupler on to it. 20 cents at home depot.
3 screw the knock sensor into the coupler.
4 have fun extending the existing knock sensor wire ( i did mine while the motor was out)
5 plug the new extended wire onto the knock sensor.

the test according to the manual for testing the sensor is to hit the engine lift brackets and see if it registers a signal (using dm you can see this).

The manual aslo says if it doesnt register on the farthest away lift bracket to hit the closest bracket before you change the sensor so i have to think the sensor is sensitive enough to work just as well at this location.

I havent actually gone out to hit the motor yet. But The sensor is just as close to the cylinders in this position as it was on the back of the motor so i dont see why it wouldnt work.

Drove it 4 miles last nite to the bank and back to make a deposit. Both ways! :D

Im a little reluctant to drive it yet for the following reasons:

1 I am wating on a good prom from BG.

2 I am waiting on a AN oil return fitting from mike lee ( so i havent put the pass inner fender on and its gonna rain all week).

3 Its running pig rich because the prom i have in no1 above is porked.

4 since its raining i cant drive it to test the wg adjustment.

5 I think i need to adjust the TV cable. The shifts seem softer just taking it easy compared to before but this may be my not being used to how the higher stall convertor will make things feel. I really need to get some miles on it now to be sure of things

Otherwise everthing seems sound. I just need the last few peices so i can finish. So while im waiting i figure i would get the fuel cell in once i resolve my questions with that.

I am tired of driving this $750 160k mile 1990 chevy cavalier....even my wife and daughter laugh at me when they see me in it! :D

Btw i found that while driving if i daydream about launching at Atco it helps make driving the cavalier more tolerable. :D
