ok i have a brand new set of l-35 heads, what should I replace to make them better for these trucks? I plan on running the 412 cam, and 1.6 roller rockers (were on truck when i got it)
Does it have press-in or screw-in studs? I'd go with screw-in studs... Also make someone do a 3 angle valve job and some porting/polishing on them. You might consider to use larger valves too.
If you want to go with 1.6 rockers you should also buy a Louis Tool and use it. Maybe that's obvious but you will need new springs, viton seals, valve retainers too.
With the 412 cam you are going to need springs and retainers. Since you are going to use 1.6 rockers that will put the lift at .533. With most stock heads (L35,Votec) machining of the valve guides so the retainer doesn't hit the seal will be required. Also with typical springs you'll have to machine the spring pocket for the increased diameter and/or to get the installed height needed.
With those lift numbers and spring pressures screw-in studs are going to be required. If those heads are new I would use those valves with a good multi angle valve job. I don't feel there are enough gains to warrant the replacemant costs and with a larger valve plus you suffer from increased valve shrouding unless you open up the chambers.
thanks guys, they are getting dropped of at the builders tomorrow, here goes more $$$ decided for the full boat, port polish, sodium valves, titanium springs the whole 9 yards
I'd say thats a little overboard, but If you wanna go fast and be safe then you're doin it right.
My plan is L35 heads, minor port cleanup with stock valves and HD springs, viton seals, 3 angle valve job and 1.6 rockers on a stock cam.
Its better than stock and won't REQUIRE custom chipping to run decent.

is this why when i bought some used vortec heads that were done by waller the seller told me when changing the seals to make sure the shims get put back exactly as before?
I never saw any mention of machining the guides for use with the 412 and 1.6 rockers which is what the used setup i bought consists of.
also going over .500 lift will mean a change in you're ecu. i have talked to mccoy and he said that the stock ecu with the ultimate chip can go to .500 lift. anything after that would require something like the f.a.s.t speed pro ecu or the accel dfi. also i noticed you are going with titanium parts. are you planning on running strickly high octane?
