L35 rods

Hi guys. I am currently in the works of gathering up everything i will need for the next motor. When the last motor went it had L35 rods in it. What i want to know is how will they stand up to the mods i have listed below and also with the addition of vortecs? I may bump the turbo to a 72 q trim with a 4 bolt housing. I am still working out the details. So do you think it's a good idea to use them or i should go with.....? Thanks. Also just an afterthought. Could you install the vortecs on a stock motor with my mods or will you just kill it? Just wondering???

L-35 Rods

I presume U mean the stock, supposedly forged, rods ?

Of course U will want to get the input of the real SyTy heavyweights on this, but I have been researching this for over a year. I am not done w my rebuild after ~ a year, and sometimes wonder if I ever will be - but one constant theme on The List seems to be that the stock Rods are the weak point of these engines.

I blew a Rod on a totally stock engine @ ~100 K, no Racing, Hi Boost or anything, and no way would I go back w these POS's. Hard to believe they R forged, because I'm not the only one to have thrown one. The cheapest alternatives, that as far as I know everyone is happy with, are the forged Eagle rods (which are Asian) and that's what I went with. I was looking at Carillos and Olivers and many others also, which all cost more and the delivery is longer. Whether they R better or just cost more because they R "made in the USA", I don't know.

I originally wanted to go w a forged crank, and had one lined up for months on a "real deal" for ~$1000. Then I got "educated" (one Stupid F*ck) and realized that it was an Oddfire crank, which R common and available. Going Oddfire is pretty much "Full Race" and very few want to go that way - and mounds of discussion have been devoted to that. BG also has a writeup on this at the Chitown site. On further inspection, it appears that to get the correct forged Evenfire crank, it takes 4-6 Mo, and costs at least $2500. I couldn't find any way around this, so I went w a new GM cast crank in a Bowtie 4-Bolt block. But then most guys don't want to spend that much $$, which is certainly understandable, because I am in over my Ears.

Good luck !

From what i undertsand l35 rods were not stock until the last 10 motors. If this is not true then i guess i have stock rods wich i know are junk.

From what I read last night... the L35's are suitable for a "budget build" which is what I'm doing. Full build up not required since there will be no racing...

I just ordered mine tonight... the price was right and from what I've heard there will be no oil pan mods needed to work...
