Leaky throttle body

TYRODD

My ass. Look at it.
Okay, I was checking for vacuum leaks just now, I used a bike tube on the turbo side of the IC and blew cigarette smoke into it. found a leak somewhere around the tensioner spring on the throttle body. Oh yeah, I just cleaned the tb last night and replaced the IAC.
Has anyone else had this happen?

ok, did a little searching, found that I can ship it out somewhere to have it fixed, thats great, but I need to know now If I can fix it myself because I cannot wait for that, Im driving to pheonix thursday :x . Is it as simple as an o-ring, or is it more involved?

I am having this same problem, from what people have said is that it a little leak is normal, but i have a huge leak. I cant build any pressure with a compressor. I cleaned my TB with carb cleaner and, I think thats how i messed it up. (but not sure, as i had no problems before i did this)

EXACTLY! I cleaned it with carb cleaner the night before. And I too cannot build enough pressure to check for any other leaks. However, I am no longer throwing a code 35 after R&R on my IAC, so I may not have any other vac leaks (kinda knew I wasnt). Are you suffering any performance loss (turbo leak)? I dont, at least none I can tell from the seat of my pants.

It's just a stock tpi tb, not made for boost. The gn's have sealed bearings in there's to prevent this. I sent mine off and had it fixxed and bored. As far as losing power, it would be more noticable if these had mafs, slit a hole in a gn intake pipe and it will pop like crazy, not able to meter the air right, ours work on pressure, and that is a pressure leak.

There is not really any power loss, but the truck runs like crap when it is thrown. And also it is really hard to build boost past 13#'s or so, Just takes a while.

Well crap, Maybe I can have a local place look into fixing this, I know the owner and hopefully he will understand why and how I want it fixed. Shoot, they might even be able to bore it out for me while they're in there. But like we've said, Is their a coincidence that after we use carb cleaner on the TB, it leaks. Maybe the cleaner damages the bushings enough make them leak really bad, even for a tb not made for pressure. Maybe carb cleaner should never be used on these (future warning)?

After looking at mine closely when apart, there is no seal for the carb cleaner to eat up, so maybe it just is getting rid if some dirt that was in there pluging any leaks. If you don't want it bored the place in Texas will put the bearings in for around 60 bucks.
