Leather care -What's the best stuff to soften aging leather

My front passenger seat is starting to get rough from the sun and no one's ass sitting in it.

Do you guys prefer any leather softener over another? I have armor all, but I don't think I apply it frequently enough.

What's good? What sucks?

I bought this, but have yet to use it. I like the zymol stuff, so thought I'd give it a shot.

Well get up off your ass and start rubbing :p -then post your opinion(s). Isn't that Zymol business <$cha-ching$> ?

I'm thinking of leaving a bottle of whatever in the truck, so when I am bored (away from the house/garage) I can lube the seats.

oh doesnt that sound disgusting...

I would recommend Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Conditioner. Use T shirt clothes and turn to wipe with a clean part of the towel jsut like waxing.

I've had tanners preserve and did not like it. too oily.

Is that the same Zymol coconut smelling shit they sell at Target?

I like Tanners. The cleaner works great, and if you buff in the conditioner and remove the excess with another cloth like it says, its not oily at all. I do it about once or twice a summer, and the leather stays soft and dark.

To clean, what i like to use is a mild facial soap like nutrigina(spelling) and warm water. Clean with a terry towel or if you have a lot of little cracks use a soft brissle tooth brush.

To condition, the best stuff i found is eagle one leather conditioner. its not oily plus it leaves a sorta orange smell. Apply a genrious amount on your hand and sorta massage it into the leather. I like to let it sit for a couple of hours before i wipe it off. Wipe it off and buff with clean terry cloth.

I Dont like Armor at all, i think it just attracts more dust then what was on it before

I use Zaino cleaner and conditioner. As with all other Zaino stuff, it beats everything I have tried. The conditioner has the new car smell to it. My Ty smells brand new all the time now...as if it didn't already, sheesh... :)

back in the day i used to work at a jag dealer, and they had this shit called "hide food".

the seats on my blazer were starting to get a lil gamey, so i bought some "hide food" and put it on the seats...

mmmm soft and conditioned... stuff works great, and doesnt make your seats all slippery like armorall etc.

only draw back, is the stuff smells like horse piss hahaha so keep those windows down for a while!!!!!!

i also used it to revive my shifter knob and boot on my sy! once again great results, and horse pee pee smell :p

leather isnt like cladding, cladding is going to take that hard to find product that really is inadvertantly doing a good job because there isnt a "cladding conditioner", theyre all made to work on everything, theyre all kindof a jack of all trades product not specifically for cladding. but leather, everyone makes a good leather softner and conditioner, try them all and youll find that most of them do the same job, ive used a lot of them and most were just like each other. saddle soap is great, holds up for damn near eternity. In my own opinion, theres no one product thats the only conditioner, leather is easy to care for, and many products do it well. So, undo the tops of each one, and select one that smells nice, because whatever you saturate into the leather....youll have to deal with smelling for a long time. And since most work alike...that would be my next most important concern.

just like the guy was telling you about hyde food. other stuff will work as well but not smell like horse piss.

If it were me.... id spin the cap off a meguires or zymol leather care kit and smell em, use the one that smells best. theyre both super at making great car care kits. Their name says enough.

SyTY Jedi has it right.... ZAINO really does make the car smell like new leather, and works.

I've used them all and find Lexol works the best (cleaner and conditioner) www.lexol.com

Agreed, but Zaino makes some stuff also, since their car wax is the best on the market I imagine their leather care stuff maybe good also. I havent had a chance to use it yet. Not much sense when door has been closed on Ty for 10mos now..... Hasnt seen daylight in over 2 years
