Long time reader, first time member....got a question

I have been enjoying these vehicles for the past 10+years and have always wanted to own one but never had the funds (wife) to treat it the way it deserved to be...due to recent circumstantial changes (not that I am proud of) I may be open to it. Any ways, there is a local auction house that has one http://www.klode.com/Kws/Napplications/InventorySearch.aspx (Input GMC Typhoon)

and I am curious about things that I have heard about how expensive parts are for these vehicles. Please, have a look at this site and tell me if rebuilding one would be worth the investment. I don't care about time because that's part of the joy.

Thanks for your input.

how much for the truck?

IMO you will spend way too much time dealing with parts being available, price off parts i.e. cladding

search for a complete truck instead, if you don't have the resources don't waste your time on this one. keep an eye out, you will get one.

Without knowing what how much they want for it, and knowing you would enjoy fixing it up, the truck might be worth it.

I wouldn't go that route if you think it will SAVE you money as in the long run it won't.

Not knowing the condition of the engine and transmission makes things difficult.

Good questions...however I don't know the answers yet. If the title is clean and the motor runs, which I would guess would be the case since it was stolen, then it might be worth while to work on it. I won't know any details until they post the auction date and I can then look at the vehicle in person. But if I can get if for $1-2000 then maybe...that is if you guys/girls think it would be worth the investment. Of course I could be completly wrong...open to suggestions.

I guess my main concern is how available are parts OEM or After market for these trucks and how expensive are they? The delima is buy a truck w/low miles and pay high dollar $13-18000 or buy a trunk w/high miles and needs some work for $6-10000.

You'd be money ahead in the long run by buying a complete and working truck.

a good one for cheap.

It's a theft recovery and for them to sell it, it will no doubt come with a salvage title (or notarized bill of sale and you have to apply for a rebuild title). It's a shame to see one in this shape but if I were you, I'd pass on it for a project. It would make a great investment for $2,500 MAX though. You could part it out and easily double your money. Have fun deciding what to do.

I agree with Jimmy. I would check this one out. If its a good truck it'll save you money in the long run.

So...what I'm gratefully reading is that regardless of the condition of the motor, due to the exterior it would probably be too expensive...it's a sublte message being presented but I think I figured it out...

If it runs and drives,it might be a decent buy.But it will never be worth much since it has 113k on it and a salvage title. If you want to buy it to fix up and keep, with no regards to the time and money that you will be basically throwing down a rathole,go for it.

The truck looks pretty good, but you know that they are moving it around with a front end loader.
