looking to ID a wire or 2

I worked on my new project typhoon briefly today. Temps started out slightly mild 40s and now were down to like 29 with some wind and its pretty brisk out right now. I'm all about working on it when I can as my time is limited currently.

I am under the dash driver side , and its a bowl of spaghetti. Crimps, splices, cut wires, balls of tape.. Its a awful mess. After some looking around most of the stuff is just jumped from fuse panel or tapped in for a hot. Grounds are self explanatory.

2 wires I have no clue what they are. 1 fat white from up under the steering wheel, paired with a fat red. They are heavy gauge. They were CUT up very high in the dash and spliced. I looked through my manual but didn't see any indicators of what they could be. The wires are ran half hazzardly from the fire wall power block. The red wore dives down @ pass. Side fire wall and I'm not sure where it goes.

I'm just trying to figure out what they are and get a idea of how they should run.

Gonna be HIGH 40's on sunday...right before the next snow storm hits. Good day to work on cars.

It's witch-titty cold right now...about 15 degrees feeling like zero with wind.

I searched....

I checked that thread and saw what could have been the 2 bulky White/Red wires but didnt see any captions or indicators on it. Could be wrong. the Dist. wires are the same colors so I could be mis judging the gauge on the photo. The wires could also be something some one jumped out or pigtailed to get power to something.

I will find out more as I dig. Pics will tell all. It was worth a shot. The Wire Wizard would know

Ok Here are a few pics. You can see how the wires come in through the fire wall and migrate around stuff up to above the steering wheel.

I am also wondering what the gray wire is with a red dot that is pictured and just like a loose end flailing around. It has a small plug in style connector on it

Re: looking to ID a wire or 2

Thanks for the post Dave, I am going to take some notes. I know the pic does not show it but I do have a pic on my phone which I could not upload that shows that the RED wire does go to the yellow. I just need to locate where the yellow originates. The yellow is actually white looking so its RED to Yellow and White to Red.. I would like to find out where the wires go up to the ignition and see whats what.

ALSO on the second to last photo there is a black tube near the hood pop which looks like its connected to a brake switch? What exactly is that part ? plastic broke on it and a spring popped out and wondering if its a vac tube at all?

Re: looking to ID a wire or 2

Quick update, I got back under the dash and looked around and took some notes.

The gray harness has the red and yellow wires present. They are both clipped. I seen the new RED/WHITE go to a blue connector up top of the coloum. I guess from there it goes to the ignition . power is dispursed as the key is put in position and sends the signals.

I did remove the center console and shift sclector. I found the yellow wire cut in that area right on front of the trans sclector cable. Both yellow and purple were clipped. And further up ( towards the cup holder area ) I found purple spliced to yellow with a crimp connector and a dead end.

Hopefully I can get it all back to normal? Not sure why it was all by passed or there is a reason behind all the taping and splicing for starter signals and ignition hots.. Dave mentioned. Clickies? Is that a bad ground condition or something I don't follow?

The little gray wire with the red dot was nothing. I ripped it out. It was tapped into a brown wire with white stripe to the driver side up under by vent if it means anything.

Everything else seems to be not as bad. I would like to get my 12v power pack and energize each port individually if it makes sense. Windows.. Doors.. Just make sure things work.

I can't get the hatch to pop/unlock. Tailgate won't release. Trying to mainly go through a check list and make sure every little switch works and the lights and all the power related items, mirrors.. Dome light with out putting battery in I have about another half mile of cable to remove, and put in a original battery cable/tray up front

Re: looking to ID a wire or 2

Today I decide to put a battery in the truck. When I went to pick it up it was a nightmare. -10 out and the battery was dead as shit. The previous owner was absolutely not prepared. With the battery being in the back and dead, it severely complicated things for me. ( he said it ran and I was hoping it to be a quick thing) loading it up. With it not running and seeing pushing In the forecast wasn't happening... Anyway, one of his buddies ended up taking his battery out and putting it in so I could get it loaded up.

I put the battery in to verify lights/high/low,signals, hazzars, dome all that work. Being Butch the Hacko worked on the wiring I seriously need to make sure I have NO issues.

On a side note, I jumped out the ALDL. Code 12 , followed by code 33. Code 12 is proper function of ecm. I think code 33 is map. I have to look Into it further. When I jumped the aldl, I heard a whine. I could not identify.

I ended up tracing the whine to the intercooler pump. Some where it was hacked into to run the ic pump. I did yank a ic pump switch out which was tapped into the rear defog switch.

I started the truck it fired right up. It started in P,N and OD. I'd really like to get it back to correct. Its no good like that.
