Lowering Questions

I would like to drop my Typhoon around 2" to even out the wheel well gaps. From reading the previous threads, I gathered the best way to drop the rear is by installing a set of Belltech lowering leaf springs (#5954): http://store.summitracing.com/partd...&N=700+4294908216+4294907470+115&autoview=sku

Are these sold per side so I would need to order two? Can I use these with the stock blocks?

Will the stock front shocks and the stock rear air shocks still work after the truck has been lowered?

Re: Lowering Questions

Yes you need 2 springs when order from summit, I reused the stock shims with the Belltech, I used aftermarket shock with them

If you still have the funtional air leveling on a Ty, you need to disable it or modify it so it relevel to 2" lowered height. Their is a good chance your stock shocks are already dead.

Re: Lowering Questions

I will say this my truck is lowered with block in the back and I noticed that the rear wheels look like they moved about an inch or so towards the front of the wheelwell. If this me making it up in my head or is that correct? It is lowered with 2 inch blocks in the rear and the front is cranked down to set level.

Really? You would think the rear wheels would move backwards when you lower the truck.

Re: Lowering Questions

If you put just blocks on then it will shift the rear forward due to the angle of things. Stock trucks somewhat had the wheels shifted forward anyways.

They make offset blocks and even adjustable ones to correct this.

If you go with the springs like Richard posted, then it isn't as bad, but on the flip side your stuck with whatever the spring manufacture setup for the pins.

Stock shocks are fine for 2" drop.

...yep there are lowering and centering blocks....doesn't 3-4 inches seem like a lot to lower the rear...thats what it says on the summit website

I HAVE THESE ON MY 93 TYPHOON AND THEY ARE GREAT, THEY WILL MAKE THEM HOW YOU WANT THEM. 1 IN DROP, 2 IN DROP, RIDE SOFT OR RIDE HARD, WHATEVER YOU WANT. I TRIED THE DROP BLOCKS BUT I DIDNT LIKE THEM, PLUS IT PUSHED THE REAR FOWARD AN I THOUGHT IT LOOKED DUMB. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY FIBERGLASS ONES. DID I DO THIS RESPONSE RIGHT? IM NEW TO SYTY, THANKS

Those fiberglass leaf springs are very tempting. Don't they tend to break though?

If you select the fiberglass springs it is very important that you follow the directions carefully
(ie torque items properly, dont touch/route against hot tail pipe, use new u bolts/clamps, etc).
Ive had fiberglass springs for many years, (220 lb spring rate, 2" drop) and noticed over
the years that others who did their installs without paying attention to the details
usually encountered cracking, splitting, and/or spring failure. In addition, I was advised
not to use lowering blocks with fiberglass springs, but this may/may not weaken the
units over their lifetime.

The steel monoleaf spring require a "time" for settling, weigh more than fiberglass
springs, and can work with caltrac/traction bars and lowering blocks. The more
you lower the less "travel" you have and the harder the ride (normally) due to the
rebound rate. Too low and normal length shocks wont work properly.

Some of the SyTy members are using coil-overs in the rear (with leaf springs).
Im not knowledgeable on this setup so others may want to jump in here. Also
you may/may not notice a ride comfort change when lowering if you have a
rear sway bar and larger diameter wheels/shorter profile tires.

You may want to have members post their vehicle stance (or search
for syty pics) so that you can decide "how low to go". And as previously
mentioned, its best to remove the `93 Typhoon Load Leveling equipment in
the rear as trying to salvage this (by tweaking it to maintain proper-lowered-height)
is almost impossible and the two work-against-each other.

Take care ole friend

3-4 inches is compare to stock s-series leaf springs, SyTy sprirngs are already lower couple inches.
