so i plan on using a 4l60e so i dont have to shorten or lengthen driveshafts and yada yada. So my question is for those of you that used a 4l60e and kept it in the stock location, did you need to clearence the firewall at all? Thanks -Josh

Shouldnt need to. If at all maybe some massaging of the places that are a pain to get to.the bolts for the bellhousing.

If dropping an ls onto a stock "style" trans, no you should have no clearance issues.

If you put the ls in the stock location, it really makes it tight for the brakebooster, wiring harness, gas lines. A/c box, if you move it 1" forward it makes it much easier to fit. I would flatten the firewall bead cause it will not be long before you need a 4l80e. JTR sells a piece to mod the a/c box. Rpm sells the motor mounts(they are solids) Oil pan is the real PITA.
