Metal in filter

Truck just didn't sound right on the last pass at the track couple of weeks ago. Immediately noticed fluctuating oil pressure, by a lot. Like 10lbs. Cut the filter yesterday and I have metal. The good news, if you can call it that, is there was never any knock so I'm fairly sure it's a main bearing.

It will be awhile before motor is actually out. I will make a decision on the rebuild then. My labor is cheap but I've spent a lot of money on the truck over the years and right this minute I'm not sure. Problem is I really like racing...:)

It saddens me to think about selling the truck but that's an option. Others are:

Rebuild and quit racing the thing.

Swap a V8

Restore to stock and sell it that way.

There's more but those are the ones I'm thinking about. I won't decide until motor is out.

Cleaned up the truck is still a beauty. It could be fully restored or anything in between as I've made it a point to not ever cut any factory wiring except the anti-lock wires to the rear. I've collected quite a few spares over the years as well.

Re: Metal in filter

I had a very prominent engine builder/tuner in the area tell me some very wise words once.

"Do you like working on your truck? I mean, WORKING on it, non stop? If so, stick with the 4.3. If not, swap to a LS based engine.". I then mentioned the history and value of the truck in keeping the V6, and he said, "Build it how you want it. What anyone else thinks is pointless."

So, I'm torn now between a 4.8 V8 or the 4.3 V6. It seems like its a spend it once, or continually spend it scenario.

Interesting points. And said differently, leaving out the 4.3 part, it could be the story of my life. :rotf: Seems i've always been working on something. The LS swap has certainly crossed my mind. Could/should make a heck of a truck.
